Hello everyone, how are you today?

Hi Davina, my throat has come out in sympathy. I feel rotten this morning and am going to stay in bed today in an effort to prevent it going to my chest. I don't want to take more antibiotics. How did your appointment go yesterday by the way?

Hi Rhona, sorry to hear you are seizing up again. How many weeks since your jab? Maybe you need to phone the clinic again......?

And Marlene too, seems as if we are all struggling a bit at the moment. You are lucky you've got a holiday coming up, will do you the world of good.

Glad to hear everything ok with your pacemaker Marlene, now you can go on holiday with an easy mind. Hope the cyst clears up without needing drained. Perhaps you do need a different antibiotic as bsk says, or another course, especially if it was 250mg that you had.

That's good news that you are feeling better bsk, you will know what to do in future (bed rest)

Another very wet day here, i went to the shopping centre with my daughter but my feet were sore walking and was glad to get home again.
I have been so tired, will need to get to bed earlier.

Are you worried about that Rhona? Maybe you should have a word with your rheumy. My neck has always crunched when I turn it side to side just as my knees have always crunched (crepitus in knees, not sure about neck, think it might be cartilage crunching.)
Stupid junior rhuemy told me I didn't have RA when my knee was so swollen I had to go to hospital because the other one crunched?!? He kept insisting I had oa and when it turned out the treatment was the same (steroid injection) I said just give me the injection and we'll agree to differ!!

Seriously though, if you are worried about rare brain disease get yourself to doctor sooner rather than later.

Still vile here and it's going to get really cold at the end of the week. Hopeless for doing anything and I still feel a bit rough so am resting again today. Life can be so boring at times.

Rhona, how are you doing? Any dizziness? I can't believe the clocks go back this weekend. I really wish they would stop doing it. I feel gloomy enough as it is in winter. Seems it's going to be very cold this weekend. What is going on! I heard it was 22 in northern France yesterday!

Hi Lynn, oh love, you certainly aren't having any luck. Glad you are being referred to a specialist but also, if she thinks it is early menopause, there are hormone tests they can do - ask for a referral to an endocrinologist if urologist doesn't find anything. I sincerely hope it resolves itself.

Well, I've completely over done things. Not only do I think I'm getting a chest infection, I've also hurt my hands moving some furniture around. I had an offer of help for tomorrow and was just getting stuff prepared today (involving moving lots of bulky things out of draws) and thought I could go ahead and finish it. When will I ever learn? On the painkillers with a splint on my hand, downed some Vit C and ready with the antibiotics. It's so unfair I can't do things I used to do.

Also, still not on enbrel yet. I upped steroids to 5mg yesterday and today but they've not kicked in yet. Fear I will have to have a conversation with rheumy nurse on Monday and will rest tomorrow.

Sorry to moan but am really fed up tonight.

Still haven't pick up anything for holiday must do it this week. You know what anything I don't take I am sure we can do without. If not they do have shops the same as us LOL.
Did any one do anything exciting the week-end????
I saw my two little grandchildren for a little while on Sunday. Didn't do much myself.
Getting ready for next week-end fireworks birthdays to celebrate wetting the babies head all on the same day.It will be nice to catch up with every one.

Hi, I think you really need that holiday Marlene, you should find the pain eases when you are there as the hardest thing you should need to lift is a book. I always end up bringing clothes home that i haven't worn and i say next time i am travelling light. They are quite strict now with the luggage weight so as you say anything you need or have forgotten you will get there.

We went out for a meal last night and visited my brother on Saturday, he is going to Portugal next week for a month, he does that every winter.

I am feeling ok at the moment although my walking is not the way it should be but certainly improved so perhaps the rituximab is starting to work after all this time.

Hope you are feeling better bsk and you Lynn.

Take care all.

Hi Girls, I travel light these days - unlike when I was in my twenties when I took SIX pairs of shoes, mostly with heels, to an island holiday in Greece. Bought a pair of leather sandals for a quid they day I arrived, never too them off and shed various pairs of shoes when I got sick of lugging them about!

Back on the Enbrel - hurrah! Feeling ok if just a bit tired. Hope you are all feeling good this evening.

HI rhona and Bsk, glad to hear you both feel better and I hope you both improve daily.
I have decided to take our usual holiday clothes plenty of t-shirts Jeans good trousers for evenings and not much else. Two pairs of sandals one for day and one for dinners in the evenings. I always take pretty tops and long skirts and never wear them so I am going to try and travel light. Luggage weight is very restricted anyway.
My hand and wrist is a bit more settled to-night so I think it might be getting over the shock of winter!!!! haha

Hi Lynn,

Sorry to hear that you are back on antibiotics. I am not surprised that it is getting you down. Do you have an appointment soon with your consultant? I think you are needing to have a good chat with them and try to find out why this is happening so often and what they suggest. I do hope things pick up soon for you.

I am doing a bit better, i think the rituximab is making a bit of a difference at last although i still have problems walking but at least i can move a bit better now.

This horrible wet weather won't be helping anyone.

I hope it dries up a bit for all the kids out for their halloween tonight.

Hi girls,

Another day, another infection! Seems I have one at the site of my flu jab, deep in the muscle @!***$@! Very painful, on antibiotics and off enbrel again. Lynn, I so empathise with you! I thought the nurses station looked grubby at the time he gave me the jab and I should have trusted my instincts and not had it then.

Lynn, my consultant gets cross if I don't report everything back to my rheumy nurse. He gave me a ticking off when I took a problem to my gp so do talk to your rheumy department.

I gather you are feeling a bit better Rhona, which is great news. Hope it stays that way.

That is terrible that you have got an infection after the flu jab bsk, it sounds so sore. You did say after you got the jab that your arm was sore. When will the staff working with NHS learn the importance of hygiene. I hope it clears up quickly, that's the last thing you needed.

Not long now until your holiday Marlene, bet you are ready for it.

I'm doing alright compared to what i was but my shoulder is very sore today and also my foot so i do hope it settles, i will never be painfree but would be good if i can stay mobile.

There may be other drugs that you can get later that won't have that side effect. Look after yourself in the meantime. We are all thinking of you and are here anytime you want to chat.

Hi Marlene, You are having your time of it as well, it seems so unfair all this pain that we have to suffer. Make sure you wrap up well tonight for the fireworks. My daughter is having a party tonight for her birthday so we will pop in to see her before they all you clubbing afterwards.

Hi bsk, Hope you are alright. Shopping isn't quite the same if you don't buy yourself something. I like to see the shops at xmas, there is something magical about it. Last year i missed out on it all, the first year i didn't make it into see the lights etc. as i felt so bad.

Lynn it is especially hard when the children depend on us so much, when I had my elbow op at 35yrs it was astrain my other half was holding down his job sorting the three kids for school coming home making dinner doing the homework bit. I felt terrible. So I do understand where you are coming from. We have a good old laugh about all the calamities that went with it.
I think you may be right about giving your body a break, but make sure with your rhumy team this is not going to make you worse.
On a better note I cant believe we are so near Christmas I dont know about you but I love it. Now I have grandchildren the magic that goes when the kids are grown comes back again, with the new generation.I think we will be having a quiet Christmas this year. All getting to-gether Xmas eve. Then maybe boxing day. I don't mind I find cooking for the whole family so hard now.

Is it this week that you go away Marlene? My brother is at the airport just now waiting on his flight to the Algarve.

Going out tonight for dinner for my daughter's birthday she had her party on saturday but today is her actual birthday, hope the fireworks won't be too noisy as my dog will be in on her own and she hates them, her hearing is not too good now so perhaps they won't bother her the same. Not nice this getting old lol, even the poor dog gets problems lol.

That's not very helpful for you Lynn. See what your own doctor suggests. I would think if you are going in for an operation of any type then it probably wouldn't be advised to take it. When i started the rituxinab the nurse told me she hasn't known it to affect the white cells. I would think if that's the case then there may be others that don't either. So wait and speak to your doctor and the rheumatologist to see what they say. I would think if it was too low they should be telling you to stop it. good luck x

They were extremely supportive and it sound like you need someone on your side. They have a helpline.

Well,no chance of sleep for me. My (very immature) neighbours have decided to have a fireworks party at 11 pm tonight plus huge bonfire, all very close to the house. Had to call the police as sparks flying everywhere and fire close to the fence. Their response, "well, we didn't have one last night." Place full of smoke. Christ, even I wasn't that stupid when that age.

My daughter had an ECG done today but the doctor wasn't there to read it so she has to phone them tomorrow for results and if it is ok then she will need more tests done find out what is causing her symtoms. My other daughter is having problems with her eyes because of her diabetes, it just seems to go on and on.

I have an appointment with the hospital in about 4 weeks to see whats to happen. They were talking about the other drug but now i don't know as the rituximab seems to be helping a bit now, although i still have a long way to go to being normal.

Try not too worry to much about it i know that's easier said than done.

I really will have to make an effort to stop stressing so much, it rubs off onto others as well so i will try and relax a bit.

I Hope you see someone soon about your eye as the waiting can be the worst part. My nephew in Canada had cateracts in both eyes when he was twenty and that was over thirty years ago (my sister is 18 years older than me) my nephew is my age lol. He had no problems and the surgeon told him he had 20/20 sight afterwards. I don't know why he had them, especially at that age, as that was most unusual and that was a long time ago and things have much improved. Don't worry too much about the driving, it can take years for it to get to that stage and it is easily treated.

My daughter went back to the hospital today and they took the monitor from her and said they would send the results to her doctor in 2 weeks, i am quite confused as the booklet she got with her appointment said they would also be doing a scan of her heart and they would explain the results before she left. I was hoping they would have told her today, so that's another couple of weeks of waiting.

I had to go food shopping to-day Oh My God the wind and rain and the cold was a real shocker. Hibernating tomorrow.
I have to tell you a little story, sitting having lunch in the sunshine, two couples sat on the next table and heard one lady say "I have had a terrible night hardly slept at all, you know I think it must be the water" I gather it was her husband "I am not sure dear, I think you could be right". I nearly chocked on my coffee.
My other half just raised his eye brows and I laughed all day about it. The water well blow me I'll have a glass of that then!!!!!
Rhona, I hope you don't mind me asking how old is your daughter and what happened that is making them check her for heart problems.
I don't know why they take so long to send GP's the results I stayed in hospital to have my checks and when the took the heart monitor off they had the results immediately for the Dr.
It is worrying and it makes me cross that they leave people hanging on for tests and results.
They will do the Heart scan if it needs to be done. I can only say chin up both of you!!!I guess if they are saying two weeks for results it must of looked ok at first glance as I am sure your Daughter wouldn't have to wait so long.I hope I am right!!!

bsk, hope you are feeling less grumpy to-day LOL.
I know when I stepped off the plane I couldn't believe how windy wet and cold it was.I suppose it is November, they say we have worse to come I am dreading it. My hands hurt already and I've only been home a day.The pace of life is so gentle on the Island I am sure that is what also helps me. Tomorrow is another day
I'll do it then seems to be the motto and I am sure thats the way life should be. It seems us Brits need to calm down and stress less.I am sure that is part of our trouble, we rush around when we feel good and then suffer for a week.Still I guess I will be my stressed out self within a month LOL.

Well sleep tight ladies and take care and keep wrapped up well.

That's not so good that your knees are sore bsk, i think this weather is to blame. Try and keep warm and hopefully it will pass.

That's good that you had a good sleep last night Marlene, I always think the sea air helps to make you sleep when you are away, pity we couldn't bottle it and take it home. My dog is the same when we come home, she gets so excited. You are right about the pace of life on the islands, everything is much more relaxed, we should take a lesson from them.

My daughter was 22 earlier this month, she has been getting dizzy turns and she says everything goes black for a short time when it happens, also a heaviness in her chest and sometimes tingling in her hands and arms. When she returned from Brazil she felt it happen and she was also exhausted. she was at the tropical disease centre getting blood taken the other day in case it was something she got there but i dont thinks so.

Seemingly the ecg they took yesterday was fine and they gave her the one for 24 hrs and told her to press a button when she felt dizzy which she did a few times. I do hate all this waiting but like the islanders i must try and relax.

My other daughter has an appointment tomorrow about her eyes, we are certainly getting our money's worth from the NHS.

Hope you sleep well tonight.

Nite nite xx

Hi Girls, how are you doing today? It's been fine today, but cold, but gather another wet day tomorrow. My knees still not great. Went out this afternoon and had to use walking stick as they were buckling under.

I hope the delay in your daughter getting results is a good sign Rhona. Usually, if something is really obvious, they tell you straight away as they have to treat you. I know you are worried about the cause of her symptoms though so it is a tough one for you.

Marlene, what a worry with your mother going into A&E while you were away. There have been a few nasty bugs around so maybe she picked up one.

chat later perhaps. x

Thanks bsk, i do hope so. I was at the hospital with my eldest daughter today and she has been told that she needs a cateract operation, her usual consultant wasn't there so she has to go back and see him in a couple of weeks, it is upsetting for her having all this bother with her eyes.

It was a lovely morning here but this afternoon was cold and wet.

Have a good weekend.

Hi Rhona, sorry your daughter has to have an operation on her eyes, but after she should be just fine.Bless Her hope they don't leave her hanging around waiting to long for op.I understand it is upsetting when our children are unwell.
I do hope your other daughter gets her results soon and all is sorted for her. It is so worrying but if anything unusual was showing believe me they would have her in hospital straight away, so the signs look good.

Bsk this weather is such a nuisance my hands are so sore already only been home a couple of days. Oh well what can one do LOL.
I hope Lynn is Ok.
Take care xx

Rhona, I think that is what I'm going to have.Waiting for my appt with Moorfield's. Cataract ops are no big deal. I worked on the eye ward when I was a nurse. They used to keep them in hospital for 5 days but now it's in and out! Easiest nursing I ever did. She'll be fine. I hope I get my appt very soon.

Marlene, stick your hands in hot water, it might help lol! We love this miserable wet country really.

Thanks bsk, I was reading about Moorfield's, seemingly it is one of the worlds best. The only worry i have is because she is diabetic and has other problems with her sight so not sure if that makes it riskier. I read your message to her, so thanks for that.

sleep well xx

Rhona, I'm sure they will take great care of her because of the diabetes. I figured that's why she has a cataract so young. Mine is due to steroids. Wish I could give them up. Trying to cut down by half a milligram a time but still hurting my joints.

Moorfield's is good. It's local to me so it's where I go when I do stupid things like spray bleach in my eye, so when I was asked which hospital it was a no-brainer.

It's impossible not to worry about family health problems but it sounds as if both daughters have good gp's who are looking after them.

Morning everyone, sunny here this morning but windy. Several pots blown over in the night and one broken, will have to repot today in the wind!

I've reduced my steroid by half a milligram and ankles, wrists and knees painful. Suspect it might just be the weather. Apparently, it is going to get even colder this week! Had a lovely day yesterday, holed up in the flat watching Getting On on inlayer and friend over for tea with rain lashing down outside. Really enjoyed it actually lol!

Have a good day. x

I think the weather is to blame for a lot bsk, my hands are still swollen and stiff. You must be really feeling the cold after being away Marlene. It has turned really cold here, it was very slippy yesterday morning and i get very nervous walking when its like that. I can't believe the hours i am sleeping, i went to bed before midnight last night and slept on/off for almost 12 hours.

Enjoy your Sunday xx
