I have been taking hydroxychloroquine for years. I have lupus/ra. Before starting on it i felt dreadful. Once it kicked in, it takes awhile, i felt marvellous. A few years ago i had to double the dose to 400mg, after developed a lupus rash. From what i understand it is one of the safest drugs although it doesn't suit everyone.

I've been taking this for about six weeks now, with no side effects as yet. Joints not so stiff or painful, but also stated Prednisolone around the same time, so tricky to tell.

I should say that you have to have regular eye tests while you are taking it, although side affects are rare. I'm long overdue for mine. It would help if opticians didn't try to flog you more glasses every time you go for one.

I have been on hydroxychloroquine (plaquenil) for eight years. I felt much better within weeks of starting it. I get my eyes checked every year to make sure it isn't causing any problems.

I took it for ten weeks and had dreadful reaction. I lost my balance and sensory feelings. My hair also lost all its colour and went a white yellow colour. I was taken off it and was off work for three weeks. It took about 6 weeks in all to finally get rid of it in my system. I may have been very unfortunate but my experience of it is very very negative.
