Subject: Operation looming

This is my first proper post. Since March I have been treated for FM/CFS Burnout. Treatment for FM around 20 years. Then found a good hospital Rheumy who looked further when not seeing results (meds, physio, etc) MRI scan, and they found 2 large hernias. Lower Back and neck. Booked me in for this Monday for the back.,I have been told that Fibromites and 58 year old (my secret is out!) take longer to mend! Does anyone have any tips/advice. Said I would walk normally straight after the op. I use a stick now, and so imagine crutches later?. What is the pain like after these ops? Am trying to be positive but just would like some plain facts as to what to expect. Belgian university hospital and Trust them. Will be glad when It's all over. Practising for the neck operation in six months!

I have had surgery for herniated disk and OA spurs. I think your operation would be similar. Yes you will be on your feet the next day. The pain will be sorted with good strong painkillers whilst in hospital. Be careful not to overdo things when you get home. I had Physio and hydro pool excercises very helpful. Wish you luck xx

Hi Veronica, It is nice to welcome someone from belgium to the forum. I am from scotland and i notice that you have a scottish surname lol.

I have rheumatoid arthritis so i am not so familiar with your condition, although one thing we all have in common on this site is "pain" I do hope you feel much better after your operation and that will be wonderful if you can walk right after the operation. It is always a bit worrying going into hospital but i am sure you will be in good hands. Hope it all goes well for you.
