Subject: Ring finger locks at night

Hi, i wonder if anyone can help. i have Arthritis in my feet as well as Diabetic Neuropathy and a condition called Charcot, this means i have to use crutches to walk. Recently i have been experiencing something very strange, my fourth finger on my right hand at night seems to lock up and even "pop" out of place. i will wake up at night and my finger will be locked, when i move it - it moves back into place and feels weird. but it doesnt seem to happen at all in the day time. I'm a bit worried this may mean i am developing arthritis in my hands, can anyone shed any light on this?

thanks

Simon

Hi Simon, I have exactly the same thing although it is my left hand ring finger. It started about a month ago, my finger was very swollen then it drifts a bit to the left and locks i then have to wait a minute or so for it to move back into place. I have bought finger splints from the pharmacy and i even got finger supports from amazon, the finger splints are quite uncomfortable to wear but they do keep it straight and stop it moving. I must say though that it seem ok while i am in bed.

I do suffer from rheumatoid arthritis. I had a steroid jab last week and that seems to have helped it a bit, it's not so swollen now and hasn't been clicking as often although it is still very annoying.

It may be something other than arthritis than is causing it but you should probably see your doctor about it. I did mention it at the hospital but they didn't seem too concerned.

Hope it sorts itself out soon.
