Subject: Possible RA

Hello, ill keep this brief :-)
I am an 28 yr old woman, who is healthy and slightly over weight but dealing with that side of things. Anyhoo. My pain began in Jan time but it was an upper right side of pain and my doctor has no clue. It's right under the rib cage, and have had numberous of tests and all have come jack normal. Apart from my immflamination which is raised to 15?
About a month ago I started experiencing elbow pain and wrist pain on and off during the day, always worse at night. Then the pain moves to my legs and is more noticeable there as well as shoulder, ankle, knee, wrist and elbow pain. My doctor sent me for a blood test which has come back normal.... But I'm still experiencing this pains. I have extremely bad stiffness in the morning which eases off after about an hour, and builds up again over the day and is painful again at night. My left leg is worse but the pain seems to going both sides... I have found out that you can have RA without a positive blood test but worried about going back to the doctors. Also there is family history of arthritis and CVID.
Does this sound like RA or am I going mad?

Goo Xx

Hi Goo, Sorry to hear you are having pains and worrying about what it could be. First of all, you are not going mad. It is bad enough having pain and very frustrating not knowing what is causing it. Before i was diagnosed with r/a i was getting random pains everywhere and when i went to the doctor my esr was over 50 but he said that doesn't mean you have ra. When i went to the rheumatologist they asked lots of questions and then told me it was, although by that time i knew it was with the fatigue etc. There are mant types of inflammatory diseases and it may not be r/a. I would suggest that you go back to your doctor or see another and ask to be referred to a rheumatologist and if it is not arthritis then that's good but you are better knowing. good luck x

Hi Goo,

I agree with Rhona, ask for a referral to a rheumatologist. GPs aren't that brilliant at these things. I had pain in my toes, then my knee, then my ankles and also my shoulder and still no-one put it all together. They kept sending me for phsyio! I finally got really very bad indeed and ended up in hospital for a couple of weeks. Even the porters knew I had RA, as did the phlebotomist and the ultrasound scanner lol! Looking back it was so bloomin' obvious.
Trust your instincts. Good luck.

Thanks guys :) its good to know I'm not going mad... I have been experiencing pains in my toes and fingers and my doctor looked at me and her first response was "but ur 28?" Lol.. and also good to know about the fatigue, can barely get thru the day without having a nap or extremely grumpy!
Back to the doctors I go! Can I just ask how old you were when you found out?

hi , sorry your'e having problems , most of us with RA get rheumatiod factor show up in blood test but not all .the morning stiffness goes with RA but dont know if it goes with other arthritis

would take the advice of the others & ask to get refered , if it turns out to be RA the outlook is so much better than 10 years ago & most they can control very well

hope you fell better soon

Hi Goo. R/A tends to affect younger people. You can get it at any age although they say it is most common between 40-60 but some people a lot younger than that get it, even children can get get a form of r/a. I was in my 40's when i was diagnosed but i think i had it long time before that as i remember having severe pain in my shoulder for years and when i mentioned arthritis to the doctor i was told "oh you have years before you have to worry about that" and given the bums rush out the door. Hopefully it won't be that that you have but it's best to find out as early treatment is important. Let us know how you get on x

I have psoriatic arthritis which shows no or not much elevation in immflamation markers and helps with the diagnosis of the disease I had never heard it before my dr mentioned it I would definatly ask for a referral
