I have just been told i have inflamotory arthritis, i have been put on naproxin 500mg twice daily, im taking 1g of paracetmol every 4-6 hourly, I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice on what i can do to help with the pain, other than with pain killers as the paracetmol are not working much.

Hi Caroline, I don't find paracetamol very good for arthritis pain and take co-drydamol or co-codomol. I have taken tramadol in the past but it is a painful condition and hard to find something that really helps.

Do the docs have any plans to start you on any other treatment?

hi Caroline , welcmme to the forum .
like Lynne & bsk said , if the naproxin is not controling the arthritis , I would go back & ask to be refered to a Rheumatologist

most people with inflamotory arthritis like Rheumatoid are controled very well .
good website to look at is national rheumatoid arthritis society http://www.nras.org.uk/

I use a tens machine. They are a good way of relieving the pain when it gets too much to bear. The machine are reasonably priced and you can get the ones with heat sensor settings which really help. I use mine at work as it clips on. Any chemist sells them.

I think Caroline you may need something stronger. When i was first diagnosed with lupus and later ra, i was only told to take ibuprofen. After a while the ibuprofen did absolutely nothing for the pain and i told them that. It was only after i had a huge flare, that they prescribed plaquinel. Weeks later i felt better than i had in a long time.
