Subject: HOW NEW 'PAIN-BLASTING' GADGET CAN BEAT ARTHRITIS PAIN

A NEW pain-blasting pen which uses freezing temperatures to shock nerves into hibernating could offer hope to millions crippled by arthritis.

The gadget has a tip like a ballpoint pen cooled to -20C using liquid nitrogen, it was revealed yesterday.

The small, hand-held device is inserted a few millimetres under the patientās skin against a nerve, causing it to hibernate and block pain signals.

Early tests show that the pen, which has been approved for use in Britain, gives instant relief with each treatment session taking just 30 to 45 minutes.

The breakthrough could revolutionise how the condition is treated as it can be repeated as often as is needed in a GPās surgery or clinic.

Apparently it hasn't be subjected to proper patient trials yet, according to Arthritis Research.

Have also read of an injection that costs £10 per day that they have been using for 8 years to treat osteoporosis that they now say could help osteo arthritis. It is supposed to help thicken cartilage by 37% and help protect joints. Hope they offer it to sufferers, or is this just the newspapers trying to sell papers?

Rhona , used to check the papers for years until finding out mostly it not true or the put a twist on it , not sure what you are refering to but Glucosamine has been shown to thicken cartilage by up to 37% or so says some of the claims

the Daily Express has had 7 stories in august about beating arthritis and another 7 in july
if only one of them was true , we would all be so pleased

How are your eyes? i hope they have cleared up now.

Take care x

Hope you get started on something soon Colin and it works well for you. I've to go back the end of sept. and see what's to happen, they might try one called Tocilizumab, i don't think the rituximab has worked too well, it has helped a bit but not enough to stop my knees needing injected again. I suppose we all respond to different drugs. good luck x
