Subject: latest thread for Rhona, Lynn & Marlene

Hi Girls, how are you doing? Especially you Lynn, I hope you are coping ok. Sending you a very large hug.

Rhona, how are you doing? Any better? Marlene too.

Stupidly went to see the Triathlon on Tuesday to see our boys win gold and bronze. Great fun but could't walk Wednesday or Thursday even though I took it really slowly. Back on the enbrel this week so hopefully that will kick in and sort things out.

Glorious weather here for a change! Wish I was in the country.
take care everyone. xx

Hi Bsk, I'm not too bad thanks, certainly no worse, although my hands are still swollen and sore and my knee is swollen, if no better by Monday then i will call again and see if they have had any cancellations for the joint clinic.

It looks like a great atmosphere in London, you are lucky to be among all the action. Team GB are doing really well, most impressive. I'm sure you will be better when you start back on the enbrel, try and take it easy.

Hope you are well Lynn and looking after yourself.
Is the nice weather helping you Marlene? xx

Hi ladies I'm doing ok good days and bad days it's hard trying to look after mum and my own family butme and my sisters are managing and I'm very grateful that my joints are less sore I took my 3 rd humira injection yesterday it is so sore compared to enbrel so I have someone give me it as I'm scared I will pull it out half done, I was off methotrexate through the ruff time but went back on it this week my bloods were looking not too bad but my WBC has started to fall so I'm hoping this is not going to be a repeat of before, fingers crossed, for some reason I woke up this morning very stiff and sore found this weird as I injected yesterday and thought I should be better but getting on better the gabapentin are helping with the pain too I'm nearly on the 900 mg a day feeling a little drowsy but manageable unless I need to drive lol.

I hope all you ladies are enjoying this sunshine it is glorious here in sunny Scotland which brings another question do all those on anti tnf treatments sit out in the sun?? I was a bit worried but couldn't sit inside so I'm sunbathing in the garden fingers crossed its ok.

Thanks for all the kind wishes it really does mean a lot to mexx

Glad to hear you are doing ok Lynn. You might be stiff and sore because the mtx has begun to leave your system and the humira not fully kicked in. Only a guess but also stress can cause a flare too.

I do go out in the sun but with sunscreen these days. There are warnings about anti tnfs and skin cancer, though not entirely sure whether it's the sort that is caused by the sun so am a bit cautious but I do love it.

Rhona, haven't you got a rheumy nurse you could ring rather than having to go to a clinic? Perhaps you need a bit of a steroid boost....?

London has been great during the games. Everyone on good form and easy to get around surprisingly. Wish it was more like this normally!

Hi bsk, glad you are enjoying games, so pleased we are doing well. Something to smile about. Try to rest over week-end.
Lynn it takes time for everyone to come to terms with a loss and you must be a great comfort to your mum, take care of yourself xxx

Rhona and bsk, I have had pain ten fold in my wrist and back and have been doing a bit of web searching and spoke to GP and it seems, when the bone spurs grow if it infringes on nerves this causes the pain to excel. Well thank you Sir Arthur!!!
I have been doing gardening and visiting and out and about making the most of weather but paying the price. Like you bsk i'm not ready for that old armchair yet LOL

Hi Lynn, good to hear from you, it's understandable that you felt stiff this morning with all that you have been through, hopefully the humira is going to help you loads.

I don't really have a nurse to phone bsk, although i do have a number for the sister that takes to do with the biologics, well you leave your number and they are supposed to call you back. They have a clinic on a tuesday that do the joint injections and they are very good, i called last week but they are full but i will call again on mon and hope to get a cancellation, i do feel i need another jag.

That sound sore Marlene at least your managing to get out and about, I'm not ready for the armchair either but i have been spending a lot of time in it (not through choice) When i walk for a short time i am absolutely exhausted and so sore. At least we have some sunshine here for a change, long may it last.

Take care. xx

Hi Lynn, you are certainly having your time of it, i know you don't want to stop your medication but you really have to speak to the hospital or doctor. It could well be coming from the mtx or the ant tnf. They are the best ones to advise in this situation and i would get onto them today, that is what they are there for. It is always best to get things checked out sooner rather than later. let us know how you get on. i'm much the same still waiting on a miracle happening lol. Take care xx

lynn, have posted on your other thread but do think you should go and see someone. If it is the drug you are better off not taking it than risking complications - if you know what I mean. I have similar probs with Enbrel in that every couple of injections I get sick with respiratory infection. It's beginning to dawn on me that I prob can't stay on it but it's working well for me.

Hope I'm wrong about both of us. xx

Hi bsk, i'm not complaining! Well only about every hour LOL. What is the point nothing changes the pain is awful, but I just have to get use to it I guess.
I went shopping with my daughter to-day, mum has gone away and we are decorating her bedroom as a surprise. She is 87yrs in November and feels her bedroom is a little old fashioned now. She always manages to make me smile. I bought some new bits for her, more modern than she had. I just hope she likes it when she gets home. Keeping everything in the loft just in case!!!!

Hi Marlene, you are entitled to complain. It's tough to put up with pain day after day.

Sounds fun to be doing up your mum's bedroom - hope she likes it! I was amused talking to my dad (84 yrs) today about olympic closing ceremony. He's never had an ear for music but he surprised me by knowing who most of the performers were!
I hope I am as up with things as he is if I ever get to that age (which is highly unlikely loL!)

Rhona you just never seem to be getting out the bit I hope this miracle happens soon, and for you bsk and Marlene too it will be upsetting if you need to come off the enbrel because of side effects I'm the same with the humira but as you say can't stay on these drugs if they are not good for us it's a no win situation!!!!

Hi Lynn, glad you are feeling a bit better - hope it is nothing serious. It's such a worry having to look out for side effects all the time.

I'm continuing with my enbrel unless I get really sick. Think I am becoming a bit risk averse and possibly over worried about things so am going to try and stay relaxed ha ha.

Spent the day with a friend who has just had heart surgery and, to my amazement, she was well enough to go to lunch and then do a spot of shopping afterwards. I was worried about her, she was worried about me but we were both fine! Just a little tired.

Pleased to hear you've had a nice evening out. There are some very good Italian restaurants in your part of the world!

I'm concerned you are not getting any treatment Rhona. Two weeks is a long time to wait when your knee is that bad.

I don't know how it works in Scotland but when I had a similar problem I phoned the on-call rheumatologist at the hospital and he arranged to meet me in A&E that day and injected my knee. I just rang the hospital switchboard and asked to be put through to on-call rheumy and he phoned me back. I don't think you should wait for that appointment. Sorry to say it again - but you've been in a bad way with that knee for quite some time. take care

Hi bsk, I have exactly the same symtoms, i am feeling sore all over and my knee is worse than ever and i didn't wake up til after 1pm today, i have never been so tired in all my life. I was actually going to ask you the same question about the steroids, i have been off them for a wee while now but was thinking of taking some until i get my jag next Tuesday. You have done really well getting down to 2mg. I really don't know what to suggest bsk, would it be possible to up them every 2nd day by a little. If you are having no side effects with the half dose of enbrel would they perhaps consider giving you the full dose.

I got my blood results yesterday and my ESR was still over 50, so i think i can safely say that the rituximab is not working well.

Thanks for advice! I'm sorry to hear you are feeling the same way Rhona. Can't remember whether you were having injection into the joint or a general systemic one.... Be careful about upping your steroids as my hospital won't give a jab if you are taking more than 5mg. Best to check first. You must be gutted the Rituximab isn't working well enough. What a shame.

I prefer to have a jab rather than up my steroids as I don't have to wean myself off them again. Don't want to take full dose of Enbrel because I will definitely get ill again. Suppose I always knew it was probable that i would have to stay on steroids as half dose not enough really.

Perhaps I will phone nurse tomorrow, if I wake up in time lol! Can't believe you didn't wake til 1pm Rhona.

Morning all, Lynn, there's nothing to worry about - you won't know anything about it.

Hot tip - if they ask you in the recovery room if you are in pain, say yes even if the pain is not that bad. Sooner you get on top of it the better but also you might have to wait a bit on the ward to get your painkillers.

I'm creaking about the place this morning. Rang the nurse's sec yesterday but haven't heard back but realised nurse back on Tuesday, so not too long to wait. Might up steroids slightly as have a party to go to tomorrow night and would quite like to get there lol!

Poor dog! My cat went under the duvet. My garden is looking very green this morning too.Dying to hear how your mother likes her new bedroom. I'm sure she will be thrilled.

Four hours sleep is not very much. What do you take for the pain? Forgive me for asking but I've lost the thread of who is taking what for what - including myself at times lol! Have you ever been prescribed amitriptyline for the pain? Nasty drug but it works.

I slept badly last night too but it is the increased steroids.
Glorious outside today, maybe a chance to get some time in the sun. Have a good day. xx

Hi bsk, my mum was so pleased she cried bless her. I said to her is it that bad lol and she no these are tears of happiness.
She had a lovely time with her sister-in-law and is going to spend some time with her in the winter.
I take Tramadol and Co-Dydramol. Nothing else. I have been offered morphine patches but I turned them down. Bit worried about them. But I can change my mind at any time.
I have taken sleeping pills from time to time when the lack of sleep is getting me down.
They make me so out of it all day so I try not to.They also give me major headaches.
I hope we both get a better nights sleep to-night!!!!
It was lovely weather to - day. my son and his little family came for a visit, stayed for dinner lovely day!!!!
I am a bit shattered now so off to bed shortly, going to my daughters tommorow.
Well take care xxx

Hi, hope you are all well today. I'm not too bad and going tomorrow for jab (hurrah) My daughter went back to spain today, it is always sad to see her go away but think she was glad to leave all this rain behind.

Pleased to hear that your Mum was happy with her bedroom Marlene, that was a lovely surprise for her. As long as she doesn't want to put posters on the wall lol.

Hope you are still feeling better bsk and hope you are coping with all this rain Lynn, I am so sick of it. Take care xxx

Meant to say Marlene, my sister-in-law uses morphine patches, her daughter is a nurse and recommended them for her, she finds them very helpful although she has had to stop them recently because she is taking medication for an over active thyroid and they were reacting to the medication (making her sick) x

Hi Girls, sorry to hear you have had such bad weather, it's not been too bad here today but is a bit cold this evening - or is it just that I am coming down with one....? Steroids helping but did far too much yesterday because I felt like superwoman on them! Of course, everything aches today.

Marlene, so pleased to hear your Mum loved her room, It must have been such a nice surprise for her.

Lynn, sorry to hear you are breathless, keep an eye on it won't you and go to the doctor if necessary?

Rhona, Make sure they give you the full amount tomorrow. Am so pleased you are going at last. I'm sure you will miss your daughter. Do you have any plans to go and visit her.

take care all xx

The weather has been awful bsk, the rain hasn't stopped all day, my dog doesn't even want to go out in it. I would love to go over to spain but don't know if i could manage it just now, if the steroid works well i might try, me daughter keeps telling me i am mad living here but it's not so easy to move when you have medical problems, she does come home fairly often.

We never learn, do we, the minute we feel better we try to do it all, hope your not coming down with anything.

As bsk says, keep an eye on breathing Lynn and don't hesitate to call doctor. xx

Spain is lovely (where does your daughter live btw?) but I wouldn't want to live there all the time. I like the UK, even the miserable weather at times!

Yes, good day for a washing Lynn, i've got one out too. i'm just back from hospital, they took 2 bottles of fluid from my knee before injecting it so hope it makes a difference. It sounds like it may be a side effect of either the mtx or humira, as long as it doesn't get any worse but do mention it to them when you next at doc or hospital. xx
