Hi I have recently come of steroids about 3 wks after being on them for 8 months. I have noticed that my face is starting to loose its moon appearance & returning to its normal shape. My body seems to be getting trimmer, so I think that I have started to loose weight. I look less bloated. The difference at this stage are subtle, but my hubby (says my face looks less rounded & is returning to its original shape), & others who have not seen me for a while have commented that I look like I've lost a bit of weight. I am exercising more as the anti tnf has made me feel energised, so I feel as if I can do alot more. So yes I am hopeing to loose weight now that I have come of steroids. Joanne x

Hi I have been on steroids every day for a few years and after much battling and joining a weight loss group I have managed to lose one and a half stone that I put on after initially starting the steroids. Its really hard work but it is possible.

Hi Joanne, thanks for your comment regarding the steroids, I have been on steroids 10 yrs and I have put on loads of weight over the years. I was size 8 to 10 and now I am size 12 to 14 on the bottom and size 16-18 on top so I am praying I can loose at least 2 stone, I am decreasing the steroids by 1mg at a time, due to me being on Humira injections praying they work for me. As I really want to loose a bit of weight at least? x

I was on steroids for over 12 years and went from a 10 to 16/18. In 2000 is was changed from pred to deflazacort and began losing weight. By the time I finished uni in 04 I had gone down to a 12 and was less round in the face. Once I started the Enbrel injections and I got off them completely I lost a lot more. Now I'm back to being a 8/10. I have recently been put back on pred foo week course for a recent flare, but have not seen any increase in my weight.

As far as I know it is another steroid, but I was told it had less side effects. I did lose weight and it still controlled my arthritis. I don't know if it depends on your consultant as to whether you can be prescribed them or not and no one else seems to have heard of them. I go to Nuffield Orthopaedic in Oxford. http://www.nhs.uk/medicine-guides/pages/MedicineOverview.aspx?condition=Steroid%20responsive%20conditions&medicine=Deflazacort&preparationDeflazacort%206mg%20tablets Hope this helps.

I found the Methotrexate when I first took it as a teenager to have its benefit outweighed by side effects. I was so nauseous on it that I used to sick in the Drs office when I went for the injections. They then switched me to tablets and I ended up unable to even look at the bottle without feeling sick and I just stopped taking it. When I saw my consultant he changed me over to Leflunomide. I found it worked much better and Iāve never had any side effects from it. However, just like most of the medications, it did stop working as well and that was when I was put on the Enbrel anti-tnf. Iām now back on the Methotrexate, only a lower dose and they gave me folic acid (plus Iām older) and I havenāt had the sickness this time round. Iām now on Humira, Methotrexate and Leflunomide. I hope this helps.
