Subject: Live vaccines & biologic drugs

I am on rituximab and know to avoid live vaccines and also anyone that has been given the polio vaccine but what i am wondering is does this appply to all live vaccines. The reason i ask is that my 2 daughters are going to Rio de jenerio on holiday and daughter No 1 is getting hepatitis A and typhoid jabs tomorrow here, they are not live vaccines but daughter no 2 lives in Spain and has been given a prescription to get hers and the typhoid one she has been prescribed is an oral live vaccine. She is coming home in a couple of weeks for a couple of days before they both travel to Rio but i am now concerned that this could be risky for me, i could only find information about this on the cancer website and they said to avoid all live vaccines but not sure if this applies to R/A patients.

hi rhona

i would ask your rummy team as they are best to give you the information you need. i thought that is was only dangerous for you if you had the injection not if someone else had it xx

Thanks Suze, i remember being told to stay away from any babies that had been give the live polio vaccine. I phoned my daughter and she got her doctor to change the prescription, to be on the safe side, it just means she has to wait now until Monday to get the jag. x
