Subject: would you ring 999 when at your worst
hi all hope every 1 ok. i was just watching an AE programme on tv and a lady had called 999 as she had a painful flare in her knee. i just woundered if any of you had called 999 when you were at your worst. i have often thought about it when all pain meds fail and im crying in pain but i have always rang my mum who lives 40 mins away to pick me up and take me to hospital. it takes a while to get in the car when the pain is that bad. it would be easier just to phone 999 and have transport in an ambulance. would you think this was wasting there time as we arnt in a life theating state.

Hi Kaylee, I would think everyone has a different pain threshold level, I suppose like yourself I would try and get in touch with a member of the family first, but if no-one was availabe and I was literally doubling up in pain and not be able to hold myself up I may reluctantley call for an ambulance...but that would be the very last resort...Though I can understand alot of elderly people would not having any relatives nearby would find it easier to call an ambulance knowing they will be taken care of...

Probably not if it was a flare, unless I thought I had an infection or something in my joint. Hopefully, I would get to GP or rheumatologist before that stage.

Only you would know if you need an ambulance. If you feel you do then don't hesitate, the paramedics are fantastic and if the can treat you in your own home they will. Otherwise off to A&E. I would only call 999 as a last resort. I am sure you would do the same. Take Care
