Subject: cox inhibitors

Hi Everyone, Is anyone taking any of these anti-inflammatory's?
I am going to be prescribed some, but don't know which ones yet.
The specialist said he will write to my GP, who will then prescribe them, when I asked if he would write me a prescription today, he said he couldn't, is this to do with costing, do you think? Perhaps the local surgery get's the charges!
It means I will have to wait, when I could have done with something now....
I hope they don't use snail mail.....
Had a knee injection after having fluid drained off. This was not painful. I have a huge ankle too, but nothing was done with it, couldn't even have an xray as he said it would only show arthritis. I would have liked to know the extent of the damage.
Is this down to cut's do you all think.
Regards to everyone. Emx

Hi Em, I think that is just the procedure that the doc writes the prescription. I think i had the cox inhibitors years ago but it was just until the mtx etc kicked in. They are supposed to be kinder to the stomach but they can slightly increase the risk of heart attack as far as i know but then again everything can have side effects.

I also had my knee drained last week and had two steroid injections. I started Rituximab infusions a couple of weeks ago and hoping that this will help soon as i had no effect from enbrel. Have you tried any of the biologic drugs yet? I hope you start feeling better soon. xx

Hi Rhona, Thanks for your reply. I had read about the 'cox inhibitors' on the internet and read about the side effects, stroke and heart attacks. I don't fancy either of those! Will probably see GP when they get in touch.
I can't have biological's because I regularly have a bad chest. Apparently they mess with the immune system even more and cause more infections.
So I am stuck with just DMARDS and prednisalone.
My knee is a lot better today, but not the ankle.
I hope your injections worked for you too.
What is Rituximab is it a biological?
I can't seem to get to a happy medium at the moment, I seem to have been 'flaring up' for the last two years. I have had a lot of steroid injections too. I sometimes worry about that and any damage they are doing in the long term.
Good luck with all your treatment and I will look in to see how you are doing. Em xx

Hi Em, Yes, rituximab is a biologic, i got the first infusion a few weeks ago then the second 15 days later, now it's a case of waiting to see if it works and also the worry of possible side effects. I have also been given lots of steroids into my knee lately. I wasn't too bad for 11 years but since last september it's been a nightmare. I hope you manage to get something to help you, take care x
