Subject: OA in neck

Hi all am new to this site wondering if anyone else has OA in neck.I also have two semi prolapsed discs in my neck due to the OA.I have had facet injections and denervation to the nerves coming out of my neck and into my left arm,but it didnt last long for pain relief.I have tried a multitude of pills but to no effect.I now have to see my Dr for further operations, has anybody else had operations on there neck?

Hi Dave,

Just wondering have you tried any other methods like Alternative Therapies to put your prolapsed disks in place or work on your strengthening the surrounding muscles that hold the disks in place...? Due to weak muscles 3 of my disks from the beginning of my shoulder and where the shoulder blade starts bulged out, placing extreme pressure on all the surrounding muscles, creating a massive imbalance throughout my whole skeletal system...I tried so many different therapies, eg Heat treatment, Accupunture, Cupping, Physio, Deep Tissue Massage but nothing really helped until I bought a back support that holds your posture straight...that made a difference to my pain levels within a couple of days...I also do very simple Spinal yoga stretches that take the pressure off and strengthen weak muscles and relax tense muscles...Look up the 'The Healthyback Institute'...you may find it helpful...they have alot of clear information in regards posture problems...may help take the edge off...I hope it helps;) Meanwhile hydrate your body as much as you can water is very importnat for healthy bones and muscles...

P.s...My disks have been pushed back into place through a combo of deep tissue massage but i have to maintain keeping them in place through the yoga stretches and a step excercise I have already written on one of the threads...if you would like me to rewrite it again let me know...Dave do you have hip or back problems too?

HI Dave,

Good luck with the OP, sometimes the operation may be the only option, will be praying for you...Dave is the pain in both sides of your hips the same or are you having more pain in one side than the other?

hi yasmin, the pain is my left hip only same side as the oa in my neck!Really not looking forward to the op,the op is done thro the front moving ur wind pipe oesophogas and larynx out of the way and getting to all from inside, but hey if it relieves the pain and misery ive endured over the last two years its worth it,at least im not having my bones fused together!

HI Dave, sorry for the delay in resoponse had a few situations to deal with:)...For me it was my right side thats been the problem, from my neck all the way down my whole torso, to the botttom of my feet, until about 6 years ago it spread into my left side also...

Ok, try this exercise...Stand on the second lowest step off your landing, hold onto the banister for support and allow your right leg to come off the step and allow it gently to release from your right hip...if it helps rotate your body left so its easier to allow your leg off the step and support your left hand on the wall...gently move your leg forwards and back and feel the stretch of your leg joint and thigh muscle and corresponding muscle down your leg...Do this for about 5 mins if possible or build up slowly...bring your right leg back into position on the landing slowly without sudden jerks or movements...take a few deep breaths...You can do this for 5 min, 2/3 times a day...It will start to adjust all muscles in that side of your body...you may feel alittle sore for the first day, but after that you will notice the pain will lessen...Within a few days you will notice a change in your back, hip and your shoulder and neck too...You will feel a release and the stiff muscles relax and lengthen...

I pray it helps...I still suffer from the pains on and off as I keep forgetting to do the exercise every morning, when my leg starts to pull, I restart it again it only takes a couple of goes for me now to make the difference from dragging my leg behind me to walking without pain and stiffness...

If this helps with the hip, than at least its one thing of the list...let me know how you get on...take care...x

Hi Dave, having had lower spine surgery, I wish you well and hope you do not have to wait to long for your surgery. I have had a good success for the relief of trapped nerve pain. I could not put my foot on the floor without terrible pain down my buttock and right leg.
That in its self was a great outcome, but the OA pain I still suffer in my lower back is just the same and not so easily repaired.
I am truly grateful for the relief I have had after the surgery, I hope your outcome is all you want it to be. Take Care Best Foot Forward as they say.
