Subject: Nationality

Hi guys:),

This thread is nothing to do with RA etc but rather about us as people...I have a very curious soul and can't stop wondering were everyone is from?...If everyone is ok with this:) Would you please just write what country you are from...For a while I kept thinking everyone is here in England, than realised there must be people from all over the world on here...Looking forwards to the post immensly...:)

Hi Tara,

Great to hear from you...You live near the sea it sounds so beautiful...Well it must be beautiful in the hot season:)...I absolutley love Ireland, the lush country sides, and open spaces, its like heaven on earth...I'd love to visit Ireland one day...Its been raining here in Birmingham too though we've been spared the muddy conditions in the urban jungle;)p...It great to be able to place people by the country of their origins it kinda gives me more to go on a far as peoples languages and dialects are concerned...like an overall kind of picture...When I interact with you I will think of Ireland... Nice, thank you so much for your trust:)!

Hi Yasmin,

What a lovely thread :-) Unfortunately, I don't live anywhere exotic. North East of England!! I live in a town but would love to live in the country. We are only a short drive away from some beautiful countryside though and go there often. Nothing nicer than sitting in the sunshine in a gorgeous village drinking tea and eating scones. My favourite pastime!!

When I was younger I lived in Cyprus and Hong Kong. My father was in the Forces. I have lovely memories from those times.

Where are you Yasmin??

Take care.

Patricia x

PS: Tara - It sounds absolutely fabulous where you live. Can I join you please?????????

I'm from Nottinghamshire and the wonderful Peak District is about a 20 minute drive away. Where in my previous life (without RA), husband and I use to go for long hikes with our rucksacks on our backs.

Tara - years ago we went to Southern Ireland and I thought it was wonderful. So clean and the properties so well maintained. All looked like they had just been freshly painted and the gardens immaculate. The little towns, so colourful, unlike my high street in town, drab and grey.

I remember going somewhere, can't remember where it was, someone told us about it. We drove up a mountain and then stop under the fairy tree. Put the gear stick in neutral, had to take feet of all the pedals and take our handbrake off. By some sort of magic, our motorhome just went up the hill, all by itself!!! I'm sitting there in amazement and giggling at the same time. In the words of Victor Meldrew..........I couldn't believe it.

Would love to go back again.

Hi Patricia, I am also from N.E.England. Near Durham. It's usually raining, but on a sunny summer day how green and beautiful it can be.
Drove to visit my friend in Barnard Castle today and what lovely scenery going past Raby Castle with the deer grazing in the grounds. We do have some really pretty countryside around here, but only when the sun shines, do you see it at it's best. x

Hi all:)!...so lovely to see so many messages on this thread, havn't been on for a few days...Thank you so much everyone, its amazing how much difference it makes to learn of a simple thing like were people live and how they feel about were they come from...its given such a depth to reading about people with RA etc on this site...I felt such pleasure reading all your posts:)...Its amazing though that we're all from England and surrounding areas...

Patricia:)...I've been living in Birmingham most of my life( I'm a young 45 year old;)p...up till the time when I got married at 18, my father moved around every year...We lived in Blackburn for a few years moving around the local area, than moved into Birmingham as most of our relatives are here, there aren't many places we havn't lived in here either...My father finds living in one place for more than a year very difficult to endure. My schooling was dramatically affected during these years as I changed so many primary schools and by the age of 12 I was taken abroad for 2 years, when we returned I wasn't allowed to go back into education, but stayed at home helping to look after my brothers and sisters and helping my mum in the kitchen...in those days no-one cared, the school never asked were I was nor did any educational facility...I missed out big time... I loved to go to school even though I was picked on and beaten up at school most days due to my timid and shy personality...Tea and scones sound so wonderful today Patricia especially as the rain is streaming down my window right now...:)
Feels so beautiful and cosy...I absolutely love rain...there are days I just want to sit and get drench in it...weird huh:)?

Wishing you all health and a pain free day...x

Hi Em :-)

I live in Darlington and often visit Crosslanes Organic Farm Shop/Cafe and then Barnard Castle!!!! Durham is absolutely beautiful. We love it there but don't visit often enough. My daughter aged 22) would love to live in Durham and visits very regularly. I agree we have some gorgeous countryside and when the sun is shining there is nowhere nicer.

Hi Yasmin :-) I do understand about moving around as my father was in the Forces. It is very difficult to 'forge' friendships when uprooted every couple of years and it can cause a great deal of emotional pain when growing up. I was sad to read that you had been so awfully bullied whilst at school. Life can sometimes be so cruel. You have certainly built up friendships on here :-) I have visited Birmingham. Many, many years ago - Harborne. I am not cut out for city life!!!! The town where I live is too big. I really do think I am a country girl at heart. That has to be a dream though. You write very well Yasmin, I hope you do not mind me saying, so you have most definitely 'soaked up' any education you were given. You would have loved it here today Yasmin because it has been a downpour from early morning. Still kinda warm though so you could have sat outside and got drenched to your hearts content.

Take great care. Lovely to find out a little about you both.

With love

Patricia x

Hi Patricia, I am often in Darlington, I usually go on a Sunday 'clothes shopping', when it is a bit less busy. I have relatives there and my cousin worked at a doctors surgery in cockerton until she moved to France in March. I am actually in Spennymoor. My daughter lives in Switzerland and that is very pretty too. Small world isn't it! x

Hi again, I wonder if we have the same rheumatolagist? As mine is based at Darlington, but I see him at Bishop Auckland. I have Dr Bridges and my friend has Dr Reece. We both had Dr Sattar until he retired and 2 Doctors seemed to replace him. Good to hear from you. Em

Hi Em :-) Small world indeed - WOW!!!

I did see Dr Sattar to get diagnosed because I was having such difficulty getting referred. YES I do see Dr Reece. I really like him - very easy to talk to and he will 'allow' me to make decisions about my treatment plan. Sadly, my RA is still not under control after two years in a massive flare in almost every joint - oh dear. My friend sees Dr Bridges and she says he is also very nice. Perhaps a bit more 'formal' than Dr Reece. I think we are very fortunate in having them within our rheumatology department. Our new nurse is fantastic also. Can't remember her name. Very efficient.

You have some lovely places to go on holiday with a cousin in France and a daughter in Switzerland. How fantastic. How old is your daughter. Mine is 22 and I also have a son, who is just back from Afghanistan, he is 31. Time goes by so very quickly.....

Fab to hear from you Em. Please stay in touch.

Love Patricia x

PS: The one time I remember being in Spennymoor was in my teens when I visited the Top Hat to see the group Hot Chocolate. Brilliant days.

Hi

I am in a little village in North Essex on the borders of suffolk. Is lovely, peaceful and sometimes muddy! but I too like visiting the big citys as well as the countryside. We had a great holiday in the peak district and used to visit co.wexford in Ireland quite a bit.

Its nice to picture where people, i have often wondered - good thread!

Great to hear about your family,I am pleased your son is safely home from Afghan'!
Sorry to hear your arthritis is out of control, just like mine!
Dr Bridges is nice, but there just doesn't seem to be any simple answers to this terrible disease.
Yes, I did go to the Top Hat, had some good times there!
I also have a cousin in Australia, she has just gone home last Tuesday after coming on a cruise with 4 friends and me. I have been to her once, via Singapore...loved Singapore, stayed there a week before going on to Perth. I liked it better than Australia!
Lovely to hear from you too, I am pleased to have'discovered' some-one so close to home to share things with.
Love Mx

Hi Teresa, Read that you come from Liverpool, I have only been twice but think it is a great city.
I have done all the 'touristy things, down by the docks, the beatles tour, been in the cavern and on an open top bus taking in all the commentary about the city. It was great.
Also on my first visit Paul McCartney's art was on display in the town hall, or is it the Liver building.
Love the accent too. x

Hi Charlotte,

Great to meet you...thank you for adding to the thread:)...I've been to Essex once not sure what side of Essex it was but it was very peaceful and serene driving through the city...you're somewhere in the countryside, sounds nice... I've been to the Peak Ditrict once too, loved it so much I captured the scenery, feelings and essence of the place within me before I returned and vowed one day I will return to this peace of heaven and one day soon I will make that journey again:)...

Patricia:) Harbourne is only about 20 mins car journey from my home:)...Patricia, thank you so much for your kind words. At school I did find things a little difficult acadamically because of the constant moves but somewhere along the line like you say I've been able to soak up alittle along the way...I loved reading and I think that really helped me to keep learning...I've been blessed enough to be able to teach myself alot of skills along the way...all kinda stemming from my wish to make my mum notice me and be proud of me...Life was very tough and my mum suffered alot from depression and looking after my 5 siblings wasn't easy for her and I was seen as the small adult who was seen but not heard...Its amazing that out of years of adversity I have gained much of who I am today...I now thank every challenge that comes my way, every mistake I have made in life because through these mistakes I have learnt my biggest lessons of life and I have grown as a human being...Today I can stand in front of the mirror and send warmth and love to the person looking back at me and not look away...that is the bigget most precious gift we can all give to ourselves...If we can't love and respect ourselves than why should anyone else...We owe it to ourselves big time!

Look after yourself Patricia, enjoy having your son home...speak to you soon...xox
