Subject: Osteo in the hips.....

I'm Alan. A 54 year old truck driver diagnosed about three years ago with 'severe' osteo- arthritis in the hips. I'm still working, still plodding on but blimey! it's getting to be a real bind now. I stiffen up so much and have developed an odd, kind of rolling gait to compensate the stiffness & the aching. I often shout out in pain during the night when my left leg seems locked in a position I can only get out of with a really painful manouevre. Almost like an electric shock - ghastly but over in a few seconds. Looking for fellow sufferers, I'm not sure why but a problem shared etc. etc.
I'm also mildly diabetic, had dupuytren's contracture in both hands and am a bit fed up!
On a lighter note I've just made a dreadful mistake in the used car market lol.

Hi Alan, I'm 66, redundant in 02, sold up everything and building my own home to get out of mortgage drain. No health problems till last year. Right knee started to hurt and get stiff. Doctor diagnosed Osteo and sent me to therapy. There I was advised to exercise, preferably swimming to reduce impact on joints, also lose wieght! Now after one year ALL joints on right side click noisily and painfully but only knee is continously painfull. I have found horse liniment eases pain in my knee when resting. Must be careful starting to move. Whole thing seems to have come on sudden like. Long time since your post. Good luck. Richard
