Subject: Injections, how many a year are you allowed

Hello all, I see my specialist tomorrow and am hoping to get a steroid injection in my shoulder and I am gonna ask if I can have one in my knees too.
Going on holiday in 3 weeks and want to get around a bit better so I can enjoy it more.
Has anyone any idea how many you are allowed in say a year?
I always get a bit relief from them for about 3months and would rather have them than suffer.
Do they do any damage over the long term say if you had 3 a year in one joint? Regards Em

I think you will find three injections to each site a year but don't quote me . I had three in my back and three in my shoulder two years ago.Things may well have changed.
No I don't think three a year does any damage but they are reluctant to do any more than that.
Wish you luck. Take Care

hi em i was too told 3 was the max in each joint and don't think damage would be worse than the imflammation is doing to your joints anyway.
this is my opinion only. x

Thanks girls.

Will let you know how I get on .X

Hi Em, I agree with Marlene and Davina that no more than 3 into one joint in a year is recommended. I think a lot depends on how bad things are as i have had 4 in my right knee in less than a year. When i was at the hospital 2 weeks ago i got one in my knee and also one to help all over. enjoy your holiday and hope you stay pain free. x
