Subject: Cramp in feet and toes, any advice welcome please.

I am continually suffering from very painful cramps in my feet, especially the toes. It can occur at any time of day or night and other than wiggling the joints and waiting for it to pass I don't know what else to do. During the day I am on my feet quite a bit at work and am trying to get into the practise of sitting a bit more, but it's not easy. I don't know if it is a result of all the meds or just another part of my RA. Does anyone else experience this and what do you do to relieve it? I would appreciate any help as it is so painful.

Hi Val, I have RA and also suffer from cramps in my toes and feet although recently they have not been too bad but that is probably because i've not been out walking very much due to the pain I have been in and spending a lot of time at home in my slippers. I usually wear trainers when i go out but on the occasions that i have worn a shoe or boot it seems to happen more often and i often have to slip my shoe off to relieve the pain. I usually find taking the shoe off and putting my foot on the cold floor eases the pain after a few mins but it can return when i put it on again. I would say try and make sure your shoe is wide enough for your toes to be able to move around in and not cramped and it helps if it's cushioned. Sometimes when you are dehydrated this can happen so drink plenty water.

Hi val, like Rhona i suffered years just the same, think it was start of the RA but didnt know it, then was told i had RA when in casualty couldnt walk with spasms in legs rhumy doc put me on medication and asked if i wanted steroid injection in ball of foot between big toe and one next to it i did this even though he said it was a painfull place to do it,it didnt hurt at all because it was agony all the time anyway, no pain and none since.i wore a clog type shoe with cushioned sole and no socks,so i could take foot out easily to put on cold floors wherever i was then hot wheat bags on feet after work.
