Subject: my daughter

hi
was after a bit of advice for my daughter she is 15yrs old,
she has had right sided back pain for 3 yrs this pain is now in her right knee, left knee also hurts but not so bad, both elbows ache and her wrists,
she had blood test done in march 2011
quite a few were abnormal but gp said all ok and was refered to a rheumatoid doctor at the hosp,
when we first sa this doctor she only had pain in her back the pain has come on since,
they first thought she had rib tip symdrome xrays came back negative, she has since had a mri scan on her knee
we got the results to this today all ok nothing wrong with her knee,
but now the pain in her elbows and wrists has developed he has ordered more blood as he could not find her old results
well i have a copy of them and was wondering if having a crp of 6(5) when the range is 5 would give her joint pain also her rheumatoid factor was at 9 (12) but the range is 12 would this have an effect as i know with my thyroid when my levels are not at 1 i feel awful even thou they are still in range is this the same for RA sufferes
any advice would be much appriciated

Hi Mel, I'm sorry to hear that your daughter is getting pain in so many places. There can be so many causes that it is best that she has some up to date blood tests done and see if they can throw any light on the problem. I have R/A and my last CRP was over 200 which was extremely high, it can rise with inflammation or infection, your daughters doesn't sound high to me, the other test for inflammation is normally the ESR, hope she gets some help soon.

hi mel it doesn't sould like she is postive for rheumatois arthritis because my crp is normally about47-55 and rf is normally 20 but sometimes the bloods don't show it and there is a ra called sero-negative ra. sero-positive is when it shows in your blood.
if she is sero-negative rheumys normally diganose using xrays, ultrasound scans and explaination for syptoms.

hope this helps and a fellower sero-neg will help more x x

I was diagnosed at 15 years old as well (am now 25).

Just wanted to point out that if they do decide the it's RA, she will be entitled to extra time in her exams. I found it useful as I couldn't sit for long periods of time and was able to get up and move around the (almost) private room whenever I needed.

Hello Mel,

I have been posting on a number of the other threads and remember seeing your post here a few weeks ago. I do not know if you have read any of the other threads on this forum but if not I would like to share a link that I believe may help.

A story of another daughter on this forum made me think of you...Hope it is of interest, Sean.
