Paula , mouth ulcers go with Mtx , thats partly why you got to take 5mg folic acid one day a week , some of us take folic acid 6 days a week because of the side effects

feeling wiped out tends to imply the arthritis is still active , the rash could be anything , some people get butterfly rash but maybe you should get gp to look at it

hi paula
just as colin says, the ulcers are the mthx - my folic acid got put up to 6 days a week - made big difference - i still have stiffness and aches a year on but still alot better than i was but think it's the steroid injection helping lots as well. not back at docs till may now but playing it by ear with the aches and stiffness as if gets worse - calling clinic pronto. not living with this when i dont' have to and if it means begging for steroid jab then so bit it :) hang in there and ask them to up dosage of folic acid as it should help xxx

Thanks for your replies, looked in mtx booklet and you can have a rash, but i am goin to the health food shop in the next few days and see what will help. I would love to see a gp Colin, unfotunately at our practice cannot get an appointment with them for three weeks, and I am back at the Rhuy then anyway. My skin felt it was on fire yesterday and it looked as though i have suburn, i managed to speak to the rhumy and she thinks an allergy to the mtx and do not take anymore until i see her in APril and go back to the drawing board in regards othr meds, see what happens.. Take care both of you, hang in there xx

Hi Paula

use corsodyl mouth wash that meant to help treat the mouth ulcers caused by mtx. The ulcers will increase as the dose of mtx increases, so use the mouth wash as part of your routine.

increasing folic acid also helps - rheumy team will be able to offer more advice. Remember mtx has many benefits to alot of us, so if you can sort out the nigley problems its a good drug!

Good luck Sci x

Hi Sci, thanks for your reply, have finally spoken to the rhumy team, and i have to stop the mtx as unforunately i have had an allergic reaction to it, my face is lumpy and looks as though i have been burnt, win some and lose some, i have to stop. It did not work for me, and it did not work for my brother either, glad it works for you or others, i have felt really rotten on this, and i have to have a couple of weeks break then i will try something else, thanks for your comments, hand on in there sci, take it eassy. x
