Subject: MTX and gall bladder

Hi

I have been put on MTX and have taken 2 doses 2 far. I have been having some tummy troubles with it burping, bloating, constipation and since 2nd dose pain on right rib, shoulder, back and chest. I put it down to indigestion. I had a GP appt yesterday to sort out my repeat prescription for the mtx and folic and told her about the tummy and she examined me and said I need a scan of tummy and gall bladder as she think something is going on with gall bladder. I was a bit surprised as I have not had any of these symptons before I started the mtx. It is a shame as I feel well and apart from these probs have had no other side affects, and thought I would just get something to protect my tummy.
I rang my rheumy nurse to tell her about the gall bladder thing as I think it is a bit ore of an unusual side affect I have been told not to take the MTX for 2 weeks but to carry on with the folic, she does not think it is the mtx but is erring on the side of caution I think.
I just wondered if anyone else had gall bladder issues when taking MTX.

Hi Janette, I know a lot of people can feel sick with the MTRX and if you didn't have it before then you never know. I know with the gall bladder you can get pain in the right shoulder so it's probably a good idea to get it checked out anyway. Certain foods can irritate the gall bladder so sometimes watching what you eat and avoiding spicy foods can be enough to help it, I am bothered with indigestion and sometimes it can get pretty bad, hope it settles soon. x
