Subject: Jaw pain

Ok so last night was the first time i have suffered with jaw pain, and my god it hurt.
It kept my awake most of the night.
It hurts mainly down by my chin but can radiate up to my ear.I also have a wisdom tooth coming through at the mo and thought maybe it wasnt to do with my arthritis as i also have really sensitive teeth on the same side.
I saw my physiotherapist today and he said he was to do with my arthritis.
Has anyone else experienced these symptoms?
I have quite a high pain threshold but i just cannot cope with this.

So Gp said she has never heard of psoriatic arthritis affecting the jaw and said it was probably dental.
She prescribed me codeine and amoxicillin and told me to make an appointment with the dentist.
She was nice about it.Im just confused about being told differemt things by Gp and physiotherapist..

Hi Mike, I have R/A and it can affect the jaw and it is sore. I get it on and off but at the beginning i thought it was toothache and went to the dentist and they couldn't find anything wrong and i eventually insisted that they took the tooth out as was so sore they were not happy and she showed me the tooth and said there was no decay in it, when it happened at the other side i realised it was the arthritis, if your medication is working it should help with the pain. x

Meant to say Mike, a wisdom tooth can cause pain, best take the painkillers and it should settle down, if it's till sore after the wisdom tooth comes through then it could be arthritis in jaw but hopefully it's just the tooth coming through, i found the pain very similar to toothache. x

Thanks for your replys Rhona, i know wisdom teeth coming through can be painful as this is my last to come through but this is so much more painful. when previous ones have come through i have managed to go without any pain killers.
I also had one of my wisdom teeth taken out as it was growing at a funny angle and that wasnt as painful as this.
Its just strange that all of my teeth on that side of my mouth top abd bottom are very sensitive.
It has eased a bit now after taking codeine and naproxen but still rather painful.

Yeah I definitely think it is the pa I asked my dentist before to check too but he says it's definitely the arthritis which is not good I know what you mean by eating soup mine used to come and go but for the last month or so it's been constant I hope you get relief soon.

Since Friday I have been experiencing the worst flare up I've ever had. The jaw pain has been coming and going. I have only been out of bed to use the toilet I'm just so tired.
This makes me think even more that the jaw pain is pa.
Still going to dentist in the morning just to be sure.

Hi Mike, Really sorry to hear you are having a flare up and hope it soon settles. I'm quite new o all this and didn't realise RA can affect the jaw. I had bad tooth ache that lasted for about 2 weeks but my teeth are fine so it was prob the RA. Thanks for the info. although that won't be of any comfort to you. It just shows how this forum works in informing people. Thanks.
