Subject: Sulfasalazine
Hi all, I started on sulfasalazine yesterday I am starting on one a day for the first week, and slowly going ip every week until I am on 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening.
I have noticed that most people get fortnightly bloods when first taking this but I am going to be having monthly test. I also agreed to take part in research that a doctor is organising for psoriatic arthtitis. I only have to fill out a few questionares every couple of weeks and anything I can do to help the doctors help us is a pleasure. Only one question really. The nurse told me that I could drink alcohol in moderation bit don't go silly, I just wondered if anyone has any experiences good or bad whilst drinking whilst taking sulfasalazine?
I am not a big drinker I hardly drink at all but I am going on a stag do at the end of this month in Spain and I don't want te be the odd one out.

Hi Mike, I have been on sulphasalazine for over 11 years, when i was just taking this one drug i got my blood checked every 3 months. I don't drink much but when i did there was no problems with it. I get my blood checked every month now but that is becaue i am on MTX etc as well as sulph. good luck. x

I meant to say enjoy the stag do in Spain, just remember that they tend to pour the drinks into the glass without measuring.

Hi Mike. I also am on sulphsalazine and take 2 twice a day. My bloods are done monthly and have not changed. I also am not a drinker but when I was away recently enjoyed wine, Malabu and coke and had no side effects. Don't forget everyone is different though and I wasn't on a hen do!! Maybe the thing is enjoy yourself in moderation while not being left out.

Mike been on Salazopyrin for 15 years now , at least you can have a drink on them , never had problem with them either

Go for your life, I did about 3 stag dos on Sulpha with no effect

Yep on Sulpha too had no problems with drinking with them and i do like a tipple or ten

Hi thank you all for your comments. Must admit I am really looking forward to the stag do, I haven't been away with my mates for awhile, and if worst comes to worst one if my mates is a paramedic so u will be in good hands.
One more thing,
Why does sulphasalazine has two spellings? On my pill tub it is Spelt sulphasalazine and on the leaflet the nurse gave me it is spelt sulfasalazine. Just think it is strange.

I hadn't notices that before Mike, on checking my bottles it has Sulfasalazine on them. I am sure you will be fine in Spain as long as you don't go mad lol.
