Subject: vacuum cleaners

I had a very old upright Electrolux vacuum about 12/15 years old I use it downstairs and a Gtech (had it for years) upstairs - but really although G tech very good and removes dog hairs, feel I need something with more suction/efficient. Last week I got my daughter to carry the Electrolux upstairs for me so I could have a good clean, with attachments - and she carried it downstairs again this weekend. It is still more efficient than the Gtech - and it has got attachments. However, would you believe it has finally packed up so I am on the search for an (obviously) lightweight, efficient vacuum cleaner. I was recommended by a friend to buy the DC24 upright or DC26 cylinder Dyson, a few months ago (so was considering then) she actually has the upright. But she hasn't got Rheumatoid Arthritis. I would like to be able to carry upstairs, if necessary but even so, would like something I can push around downstairs - without too many back, shoulder problems, etc.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Experience is always best !

I have a dc23 animal it's really good for dog hairs but not for bigger bits of rubbish, I love mine and doesn't hurt my back too much but I do need someone to carry it upstairs for me other than that it's great and has all the usual attachments that fit onto the end of the wand so you don't have to bend or reach up. Hope that helps x

hi,
a little tip from me, also when you are in the shop, try taking it to bits as if you were about to empty it. i have a great light weight hoover, but really struggle with the fiddly job of putting it all back together after I empty it. Wish I'd tried before i buyed!
