Subject: active disease v's non active
hi guys just received copy of letter from hospital sent to my GP. He says although esr and cpr are only mildly elevated and something about visual analogue score and joint count - he believes she has 'active' disease. do i assume he means the RA and therefore symptoms and pain are currently active - does/did anyone else have this then is slow down or go into remission or whatever else there may be? jeez how much worse is this going to get but how quick? well sorry that's like asking you how long a piece of string is.hope your all keeping ok despite this horrible horrible cold weather

I've got 'active' disease'. When the drugs work properly some of the docs call it 'remission.' I think it is debatable whether it is remission or whether the drugs are just working - cos if you stopped them the symptoms would possibly return.

hi bsk thanks, i do remember last year he said about remission but looks like no remission now so the tablets must have been working, he's put my mthx up to 22.5mg a week and go back in 4 months. i just have days were the real reality of what i have kicks in and it scares me, i smoke which i know doesn't help then when i'm worrying or panicing what do i do - reach for a cig lol I still dont 'fully understand RA and what it is actually physically doing to me inside my body so guess it's time to start asking the docs the clinical question now. thanks for being there x

do you know what your esr & crp levels are , it helps if you got your own blood test book so you can see the results never had RA in remission myself , had it around 17 years , long term what you want is to stop joint damage & get RA undercontrol , CRP should be at least under 10 & preferable a lot lower as for the weather , never found it makes any differance , it does with OA

Well it does with me. It affects everyone different I guess. Mum has OA and the weather never made any difference to her! Again we are all different!
