Subject: Does any mattress help?

I have breast and bone cancer - tumors in my lower back. My consult advised me to ask the following question on this site as my symptons are the same. I haven't slept well for years because of the pain in my back. As the situation seems to be getting worse I was wondering if the Tempura or Octisprung mattress might help. Would like recommendations first because of the huge cost of the mattress.
Thank you.

Hi Jackie. I have bought a new bed with a temura mattress and its brilliant. It has really helped with my back pain etc., The MacMillan cancer group should be able to help you with this purchase, give them a ring. Have you applied for DLA? Gillian

Thank you for your reply Gillian.
Yes I have my DLA. I have heard that the Tempura is very hot (already suffering from hot sweats so more heat will not help) because of the lack of ventilation through the mattress. Will ask the cancer people for advise too.

Hi Jackie, sorry to hear about your condition and sleeping problems. I have heard Tempura is hot as well and like you, get sweats at night, so I wouldn't get one.

Would having the bed raised at the head at night help relieve the pain in your back? Just wondering if OT could help with a loan of a bed....? It's worth asking what they have, if you haven't already.

Hi again, it is hotter in bed but you can comprimise by having a light duvet. I am in mid throws of menopausal hot sweats day and night but find a lighter duvet is much better. You will find a large selection of beds with memory foam on top of the mattress, just try them out in the shop and see what feels best. It really does make a difference. I would not go back to a 'normal' bed now.
