Subject: A Long night
Hi, a long night in which the pain is keeping me up. As mentioned in an earlier post, I was diagnosd with RA yesterday, and had a steroid injection, and later last night, the pain returned. I noticed in the booklet I was given that the injection I was given can cause mood disturbances, and can be made worse if you have a mood disorder which I have, I did make the rhumatologist aware that I had a mood disorder, I was given the injection, booklets given go have x rays and things. This morning, sorry for saying my bum is XXXX hurting, and I am supposed to be having another one in a month. I was given two booklets on the medication mextrate and peroquil, she has to liasie with the pyschiatrist because I am on lithium citrate amongst other things, She said oh you can take ibupfeon on this, so thankfully i had taken a list of meds, and gave her the lithium fact sheet, and she saw that it can make the levels of lithium toxic. Also have asthma as well. Sorry, needed to let of steam, about to go to the hospital and queue for a blood test, there were 70 people there yesterday and standing room only, and after the rhumy appoint, three x rays, and overwhelmed by everything, needed to put distance between me and the hospital. Another question I have is where would be the best place to get support in person to deal with all this and the emotions I am going through right now? My family are not all that supportive, and people just say to you "oh that, it is an old people's disease" or it is not taken seriously. I don't like to bother people and tend to suffer in silence. I am concerned about the impact on my mental health with this, as in the last few months had bad depression, fatigue and anxiety which preceeded the pain, swelling stiffness ect, which is causing crap now. My brother said I was lucky to get a diagnosis so fast, as his PA took three years to diagnose.

morning Paula, sorry to hear you had such a bad night. you are on the same meds I have (diagnosed march 2011) it took 6 days for any effect with the pills - in RA terms 6 days is longggggg - my emotions were all over the place, depression etc just like you. partly meds partly it all sinking in that i have this flamin RA. if you were diagnosed early then like your brother says that is good because at least treatment has started and hopefully it will get better. I still get very weary, fatigue etc but you adjust your life (or try to :) ) Hopefully the meds will start working to ease some of the pain soon and you can feel a little better. i don't know where in country you are but look for a local Arthritis support group for support and obviously you can come on here and vent anytime you like, everyone is here for just that reason. hoping you feel better soon xxxxxx

Hi Paula hope they sort your meds out soon but it does take a bit of time , one thing is that I am asthmatic as well , about 1 in 10 people with asthma find non steroidal anti inflammatories like ibupfeon cause asthma , I am one & take Mex worth trying a hydrotherapy pool , this will help you until they get your drugs sorted

Hi Paula, sorry you had a bad night. Hope you don't have too much of a wait at the hospital. I have Osteoarthritis and have been hearing thats an old peoples disease isn't it since I was in my middle thirties. Well I don't mind saying I am sixty now and I still don't class myself as that old (with a mum of 86yrs) LOL. Its not just for old people and arthritis of all forms is just a word to those who have no idea what it is like. You will come to terms with it all and you will be a stronger pereson for it. So glad you have become a member of this forum. I have been on here for about 15months and they helped me from day one and still do. Take Care!!!!
