Hi Steve and welcome, I am new here too so am not as 'experienced' as the others in what you may or may not have, but it sounds very similar to what I have, Osteoarthritis, I also work, I enjoy my job and dont want to have to give it up, but its getting too painful now. My Dr has also sent me for all sorts of test, and the diagnosis is YES you do have arthritis, but only minor, not enough for anyone to really give a damn about, in the meantime I am in constant pain?? anyway these peope here are a wealth of knowledge and good advice, Im sure once everyone is back on board after the Christmas break your questions will be answered.

Hi Steve, you do sound like you have arthritis in your back. You need to take care when lifting. I don't want to put you on a downer, be careful not to slip your disc. The best way to find out what is going on in your back is a MRI scan or CT scan. Ask your GP to refer you to a Rhumy team. You do have the classic signs of OA. Sciatica is caused by trapped nerves in the spinal column. So be careful not to make your situation worse. It is hard when our jobs don't help us. There is also belts to help support your back. You must take advice from a good rhumy team.Tell your GP it is important as it is affecting your job. Good pain meds are also very important. Good Luck hope this helps.
