Subject: bit of help please

hi hope u all dont mind me posting i am new here :)

well i am 21 years old. i have been suffering with my joints since i was about 14 or 15. i finally plucked up the courage to go to the doctors a few weeks ago (been putting it off and ignoring it and hoping it would go away) well they sent me for blood tests for quite a few different things, my vitamin d is low and some others came back abnormal to do with inflamation so the doctor called me in "asap" for an appointment i was put on steroids for 5 days they are called prednisone 5mg i was told to take 6 of them a day. the doctor said if the prednisone work then it means ive got some sort of artheritis, is this right??[/color] well they worked wonders was like a miracle drug i was less stiff could walk alot faster slept alot better hardly any pain at all had no problems with day to day activities that were hard to do before. since i came off them the pain and stiffness and clicking and locking ect is coming back. i have my first reumatology appointment tomorow and i am wondering what to expect? what will they do during my appointment?
thanks :) laura x

Hi Laura, well done for getting yourself to the doctor.Tomorrow they will probably examine you, do some blood tests and maybe some xrays. They might want you to take more drugs depending on how you are.

There are lots of types of arthritis so sometimes it is not always quick to diagnose which one, but it may be obvious to them of course.

Let us know how you get on.

Thank you for your replies.

I went for my appointment yesterday, she asked loads of questions and examined me. Then told me I have got Joint Hypermobility Syndrome and "Ligaments like elastic bands" they are all floppy. Ive got to go for more blood tests and an ultrasound and xrays of all my joints to see if ive got any arthritis.

xx

hi laura at least they are doing the tests required, pred was great for me in high doses as i reduced i had pain and stiffness ect... again.
i have been on a 5-2.5 mg dose for about 3 months and just can't go less than that otherwise i would not function. even that dose is to low sometimes anyway hope they can get a correct diagnosis and get you on meds you need. i am 31 on 2nd jan and have ra for 2 years after i had my son so i know how hard it is to be young with a horrible disease.

hope your well as pos take care
