Subject: Fibromyalgia

I am really fed up now i am in pain and my GP keeps fobing me off. I thought it may be RA but have been told no its not, so i have been looking on the web and have come across fibromyalgia{not sure thats spelt correctly}Can anybody on here advise me if my symptoms fit before i go back yet again to my GP, My main sympton is muscle pain, tiredness and headaches. I have tender points in my neck shoulders, hips, back, elbows and knees, the slightest touch hurts. When i walk the muscles in the tops of my legs are really painful. I am also very stiff in a morning or if i have been sat down for to long. I have mentioned all these problems and have been told its an age thing, and advised to loose a bit of weight, which i have done over a stone but its not getting any better. any advice gratefully received. Thanks

Marg , many thing is Fibromyalgia is dont affect the joints like arthritis , dont get heat in joint like us with RA or the joint damage

it very similar to chronic fatigue syndrome & treatment is similiar but you need consultant to find out if it is that or cfs or at least eliminate it, ask your doctor to refer you

hope you feel better soon

I take Sulfasalazine for sero negative RA and have just been told I also have fibromyalgia. The RA consultant was pressing trigger points on my body and the pain the pressing caused was dreadful. My sleep at night is very poor as well.
I have bad burning pains in my joints which I was told was the fibro. I also get very very tired and find it a struggle to work full time. Spend alot of my time off just resting and taking things easy. It was hard living with RA but even harder when you have both RA and fibromyalgia. Hope you get some answers and some treatment.

Hi Marg, let me just say don't accept its an age thing. Wether you are 10 or 90 it doesn't matter. You have to push your GP for more test or refer you to a Rhumetologist. Living in pain is not good and it is not right,we all deserve the best treatment no matter what age. Sometimes it is a long road to the correct diagnosis but the light at the end of the tunnel is there. I hope you get sorted soon. Take Care.

Sorry I have not replied sooner but I have been ill. Went to GP but he is not prepared to do anything at this time still insists it's an age thing I am 51 so will just have to get used to feeling like this. Thank you for your messages.

HI Marg, sorry to hear your visit to your GP doesn't seem to be a very good outcome. How can he say it's an age thing and leave it at that. I hope he has given you some good pain med. Is there not another GP at your practice you could see. I could scream when I hear it's your age. My mum is 86yrs bless her and she doesn't walk around in pain all day like I do.(I am grateful for that). If I was you I would keep going back until someone listens to you. Lots of us have had to do just that. I suffer with OA and have had two surgeries because of it so what I am trying to say don't be fobbed off. All forms of Arthritis bring there own problems. It is real important to have a good network around us that includes GPs and Rhumy teams. So just keep knocking on the door until the Gp sits up and listens to you. Go armed and say I have been doing research and this is what I have read. Let them know you are not going away. Good Luck and Take Care X
