Subject: unsure what to think

hi all i was ment to see my rheumatologist on wednesday but when i asked for the time of my appointment and was told that my consultant couldnt see me cos she had a meeting. i was finally seen yesterday i basically got fobbed off with nurophen they said there is fluid on my knee i cant have another cortisone jab cos i have had two which i understand. the lady i saw yesterday said it didnt look that swollen but then she got the lady that drained the fluid off my knee last time and she said it looked worse anyway i was fuming yesterday at being given a pat on the head and sent on my way with nurophen i went to my gp again today asking her to get hold of rheumatology on my behalf as im fuming they cannot leave me like this i cant even put my foot on the floor she said that she thinks it will settle on its own and it doesnt look as bad i personally still think its swollen but i dont know what to do i feel like im the only sain person in this planet i do have eczema on my knee surprise surprise through stress the doc did say it will contribute to swelling which i guessed so basically nothing has been done stuck with this probelem feel totally lost

The painkillers are good they don't take it all away but can't do anything else as they won't do anything anyway just feel like they don't want to know

Hi Laura,

I can really empathise with you on this, it's so hard to get the same consultant now which can be frustrating as often you find yourself telling the same story over and over. Just a little advice, I wouldn't get the cortisone injections too many times, as I did and my left knee won't straighten and has been made deformed from too many injections. Obviously everyones different and it may not affect you in the same way but I feel a lot of the time they like to do this rather than finding a better long term solution.

One day I finally stood up to them and asked what my long term solutions were. I had an Arthroscopy which didn't help at all and am now trying Methatrexate again. It's so frustrating when they don't listen and hurry you along. I find you have to do a lot of your own research and actually ask for the drugs you want. I would recommend Diclofenac or Naproxen, both very good anti inflammatories.

Best of luck and I hope you get the help and support you deserve soon.
