Subject: smear test and RA
Hi my name is lynn and this is my first time on any forum... I have RA and have had it 22 years (im 52.. a young 52 lol)through these years i have been lucky and had periodic flare ups... but now all of a sudden my factor has gone up to 120 and my doctor said its full blown... which has shocked and confussed me and ive not stopped crying.. and been told i will start to take methotrexate... anyway thats not the reason i am writing here... just over 6 months ago i had to have a smear and it came back showing mild abnormalties and i had to have it repeated, which i have and it has just come back with abnormalites? my question is... could the RA doing what it is doing be the reason for the smear test showing this... thank you in advance from a scared lynn :-(

Your rheumy team. you should have a number for the nurse if not call your hospital operator and ask for the rheumatology nurse team. they should be able to help. x

i am under the hospital... for a long time, but all this 'fully blown' has only happened in the last week... as i said i have had RA for 22 years, i guess because of the way i am i took it for granted that i live a full and normal kind of life... but in the last few months my leg and other joints, have started to hurt to the extent that i cant seem to do normal things at the moment... and the doctor i was under, who i grew to trust and like over the years has retired (another confusing thing) anyway, the new doctor who seems a nice lady, had used terms i have not heard of and i am finding it so scary, on top of this is the smears :-( i have only last week been told i should be taking methotrexate, and i am waiting to hear from the nurse.. i do have a long list of questions to ask... but the second smear results came back 2 days ago... but because i found this forum i thought i would ask as... as i said i am in a weird place at the moment and i admit i dont like it :-( again thank you for ur reply x

If you don't have a nurse then phone your consultant's secretary. It is vital that you inform them of the smear result and also find out for yourself if this is a result of the RA. Just phone the hospital and be asked to be put through. Good luck.

hello i know its easier said than done but try not to worry, you do have to contact your rheumy/nurse especially if they want you to start meth as its a complex drug and has side effects that could cause possibly concern if the smear shows something. which i hope is not the case. you do really need comfort and hopefully the rheumy team can help you. i so ope your ok and take care. xx
