Subject: anti inflammatory's along with methetroxate, etc

Hi, I am wondering if anyone else has to take anti inflammatory's as well as all the other R/A medication. I was prescribed Lodine but had to stop it as it didn't help very much and my foot and leg got very swollen. I have now been prescribed Naproxen EC but i am a bit worried about the side effects, I would be interested to know if anyone else has been on them long term.

Hi Rhona, I've been taking Methotrexate for about 9 months now along with Sulfasalizine, hydrocholaquin and Meloxican which is a anti inflammatory. I'm generally not to bad on them but I do tend to feel sick a bit mainly in the evenings. I'm never actually sick I just feel sick. Hope this helps a bit.

Hi Rhona, I have been taking Sulfalazine for three months now and was told I by gp that I shouldnt need anti-inflammatory medication. For pain I take Co-codamol 30/500 I think I am starting to feel less pain but stiffness remains.

I take MTX,,SLZ and currently take two 800mg brufen retard (slow release anti inflam) a day. The MTX was added a year last June and when I went to the chemist to pick up my meds. they were reluctant to give me the MTX because the computer showed up a inter reaction between the MTX and brufen retard. I was only allowed to take the MTX away after I assured them I would check with my consultant if it was OK to take them both together. I spoke to my specialist nurse who told me that yes you aren't suppose technically to take them both together but the benefits out weighed the risk. I also take a stomach protector everyday.

The medication that we are prescribed for RA i.e. the Dmard's etc are not painkillers and we should if need be take some sort of painkiller along with our RA drugs. I have also been told that I can take paracetamol along with the anti inflamatories when needed.

I have been on naproxin and Tramodol, as well as meth and another one, for 4 months now and have no side effects. I am very lucky. I don't know what it will be like if I stop taking them but I do feel the aches and pains returning if I forget a dose or am quite late taking them. I don't know if it is in my mind though. Good luck with whatever you decide.
