Subject: Alcohol level in blood on Humira

I recently tested my wife's alcohol blood level and it was double what I would have expected and this has been repeated several times since.

I have been trying to find any reference to this as a "side effect" but can not find any and wondered if anyone else had seen this.

My worry is that if on only 2 small glasses of wine she was stopped she could be over the legal driving limit.

Until you find out is this is the reason for showing high level alchohol in blood stream and have wrtten proof of this I suggest maybe the two small glasses of wine should be omitted. Just my opinion sorry if it sounds a bit harsh.A small price to pay to keep her licence, good luck with your search.

Depends what you call a small glass and what the alcohol percentage is. She might well be over the limit on two glasses.

I never drink anything at all when I am driving. Not virtuous, just don't think I am safe.

Also, it can depend on what other drugs you are taking. Some exacerbate the alcoholic effect.

hi from working in a bar as a manager 175ml glass of wine for a woman of ave weight (9-12 stone) would put you on the line if you had any more that would mean your over the limit. if she is driving on 2 small glasses make sure the amount isn't over 175ml.
in my opinion being a driver myself no amount of alcohol should be consumed before driving

I have been on Humira for going on 4 years and it shouldn't have any effect on your wife's BAC. It sounds like she's just drinking a lot, could she be sneaking in drinks when your not looking?

LOL sorry but you really have tickled me with your comment. I will slap myself later for laughing. What a tonic, better than a pain killer.

I am dissapointed at the comments made when I was approaching this on a knowledge basis but first of all I must say that my wife rarely drives after any drink and if she does has two small 125ml wines.

When I have tested her I KNOW what she has had because I have been with her and then tested her as well as myself to understand the effect.

My concern was for others in that IF this drug does have the effect of doubling the alcohol level then it needs to be clearly stated so others do not fall fowl of this.

As stated it may be her body or other drugs that are affecting the reading but unless I ask for others experience how will I know.

The worse thing about the replies is that she look at the comments and was disgusted at the comments and lack of support from fellow RA suffereries

Kevin, I think you may have over reacted to the advice that you were given. There does not seem to be any advice that I can see that can be taken as offensive. My question is - why did you have to ask about your wife's medication in relation to drinking and being over the limit? May I very politely ask why she did not ask about herself rather than through a second party.
All advice from others on here is always given in a kind and considerate way. We all have alot of problems, both emotionally and physically, with this dreadful disability to contend with. There is such alot of support on here from everyone to everyone. Please accept the replies in the context in which they were given......caring.

It's not lack of support Kevin. Like Gillian, I am not sure what it was you wanted from us. I gave my position, which is I don't drink and drive, ever, never have. I am on meds that might well make me unsafe to drive with alcohol, so I don't.

If your wife is constantly 'over the limit' after two drinks, why don't you test to see how many she can have and be within the limit? Not everyone processes alcohol in the same way, some ethnic groups can't break it down at all so any alcohol is over the limit. That's all I'm saying.

Hi Kevin,
As bsk and Gillian have asked what kind of advice is it you are looking for. I am sorry to see that you are disappointed in the comments made, but on a whole it is an issue that has not been raised here and I don't know of anyone that has the same issue.
My personal advice would be that she doesn't drink and drive however small the amount and that you should consult a health professional regarding this issue and ask their advice.
I am on Meth and noticed a warning about consuming alcohol whilst taking it so to be honest not being a drinker anyway I haven't had a drop.
One question I have for you is why have you felt it necessary to test your wife's blood alcohol level in the first place and how did you do it? If you feel that you don't want to answer it's ok. Please do not be offended that is not my intention to do that to you or your wife.
Take care

Kevin, please try not to take this to heart, for a lot of people drink driving is a big no no. Maybe you should of explained that your wife had no intention of driving after two glasses of wine, but what you actually said was your wife rarely drives after drinking. Most medication should not involve alcohol for many different reasons. This forum supports all forms of Arthritis sufferers in many ways, but sometimes people may be offended but this i can assure you is not our intention. We actually only advised that your wife should not risk her license. Take Care.

Hi kevin sorry you feel that we didn't support you but you didn't say that she didn't drive after 2 glasses of wine. as i said before 175ml glass is the limit in most cases so if she is drinking 250ml then that would make her over the limit to drive.
Also in your 1st message it seemed to me that you was asking due to her driving after the 2 glasses. you didn't say she was not doing so.
we messaged you because we was concerned and for me drink driving is a no no.
