Hiya and welcome:)
My advice would be for you to ask your GP to referr you anyway. My results always came back normal, but when I was finally referred after almost crawling into the surgery due to pain in knee. The hospital did other tests that the GP hasn't got access to and I was diagnosed with seropositive RA. You have every right to a referral and a diagnosis:)

take care xx

Hi Maria, have you had MRI scan or CT scan to check for OA. I like your mum have OA and it seems it can be passed down the line. My Dad had OA from a young age and i followed in his footsteps. RA is not alone in causing swelling and painfull joints there are many forms of Arthritis as the guys on here will confirm. It also seems a hard slog to get the results we are desperate for and given the treatment that we need. Was your mum young when she began to suffer? If so then speak with your DR about it. I was middle thirties and it took years for me to be diagnosed properly. You keep knocking on the doors until someone listens and comes up with a proper diagnoses for you. Take Care and Keep Smiling.

thanks for replys, marlene no all i have had this time is a blood test, four years ago was given an x-ray on shoulder as well as blood test. my mum was roughly the same age as me when she first had symptoms of oa, ( no one ever listened to her) saw a doc in may and said about my mum, she examined my knee moved it about and told me all was fine, she made me feel as if i wanted arthritis, have doc app on 31st oct, if she not willing to do no more think i may pay out for a private consultation. i also get very tired at times. thanks once again

Hi Maria, sorry to hear you're struggling. Go back to your GP. I was finally diagnosed with RA last year at 38. I had been to surgery on & off for years complaining of joint pain, xrays/blood tests always came back clear. It wasn't until last year when I found myself taking maximum dose paracetamal & ibruprofen daily that I went back and made a fuss. At that point I had no swelling/stiffness etc just pain. The GP decided to get my blood done again and it came back positive. Since diagnosis a year ago my symptons have worsened and are now affecting 18 joints. Please go back to your GP and as others have said it doesn't always show on the blood tests. I hope you get some answers soon x

Hi Maria
I was the same pain in lots of joints and diagnosed with OA in my knees and ankles GP said that OA does not travel through body. Had several blood test all negative and X-rays also negative but i kept insisting that i was in pain so got referal to Rhummy clinic where i was diagnosed with Psoraitic Arthritis have started on medication and hopefully it will help.
Ask your GP to refer you to a specialist

Your statement reminds me of myself, I have been given two different diagnosis by 2 different doctors: 1) seronegative RA also known as Rheumatoid Variant Arthritis 2) inflammatory arthritis. Personally I feel that I'm sick with RA because of the severity of the pain and joint inflammation. If you have seronegative RA it might never show up on a blood test. My doctor told me that seronegative RA is typically less severe that regular RA.
