Subject: Natural Remedies and Treatments (No selling allowed in this thread)

Thought it would be a good idea to start this thread for people to debate the pros and cons of Natural remedies, treatments and the treatments prescribed by Physicians.
If you have found something that helps your condition can you please just state what it is i.e: fish oil, rose hip etc not the brand names
so people can research the benefits etc themselves and make informed choices.
I remind everyone that:
Please remember that this is a space for people with arthritis to make contact with other people in the same situation. It is not a place to sell stuff or to promote any particular product or service. We will remove messages that we feel are not appropriate for this message board.
has to be adhered to without exception.
take care all and I look forward to the debate.

Excellent idea - gives people the opportunity to have a chat about alternative treatments that they have used. I would love that.
I was getting heartedly sick of the bogus sufferers, we are not stupid you can spot them a mile away.
i do believe that through particular nutrition we may be able to ease some symptons and this kind of selling does not allow us to have a good discussion.
Thank you Dilizjo, much appreciated.

Hi People,

I have R.A for nearly 18 yrs, i do lot of research on lots of natural therapies and alternatives.

if anyone would like to relieve inflammation and ease joint tenderness, juicing 1 large carrot, 2 stalks of celery and 1 braeburn apple helps with that issue they feed your joints with goodness. They are packed with anti oxidants which does help with auto immune condition.

just wanted to share this.

Well done Dil, I have become more interested in trying diet modifications to help my RA. To date, none of them have worked! Any tips gratefully received. I don't want to go on a strict exclusion diet.

Yes its something that has to be done every day for the body to detoxify acids from joint tissue to keep them healthy, I my self do it, only started doing it from this year actually when my hip joint had been badly affected, even though I dont have much relief on the large joint but on small scale have felt benefits on the smaller joints.

its worth giving it a go when anti-inflammatories aren't always best on the stomach.

You can also sprinkle Rose Hip powder or open a capsule of it in that juice mix and stir it in, it may give you pain relief.

Love the sound of that juice Shiffy :-) I am definitely going to try that. I used to juice regularly but got out of the way of it. Must remember to get that juicer out of the cupboard!!! Rose Hip powder is a good idea too. Thank you...x

Can I just remind people here that if you are on certain drugs, such as Methotrexate (which is heavy on the liver), a lot of herbal and alternative internal treatments shouldn't be taken. As my rheumy nurse said 'only external, nothing internal.' So do please check with your doctors before starting anything.

juicing isn't very much a alternative treatment but a part of nutritional diet to keep a diseased body healthy and should not be problem with taking methotrexate or biologoics but anyone unsure can always ask their doctors.

I understand Bsk, I'm glad you mentioned it and I thought it was best for me to also mention they should consult doctors before adding anything to one's diet. Thanks

Hi all
I am doing a bit of juicing at the minute and trying to eat as fresh as possible - i don't eat meat or chicken so its easy to substitute fish at meal times. This is a big change as i would have ate loads of vegetarian packs laden with cheeses and sauces and bread for every meal. So in a way its like being on weight watchers but i am looking at processed and high fat stuff instead of calories.
I have a friend who has just been diagnosed with celiac disease - did you know it is an auto immune disease as well?
I can't shake the feeling that what i have ate has had something to do with how i am now. I know that is a bit of a stretch but.....
I hate washing that juicer though!

Quite right Shiffy! For example, I know too much Vitamin A (as in carrots) is not considered good for you, contrary to my practice of drinking it every day about 25 years ago.

Oh Mads, YOUR SO RIGHT I HATE WASHING MY JUICER TOO!!! If only they made them more simple for washing.

Yes bsk! too much vitamin A is something to be careful on, I suppose if your having a carrot a day there's no need to have an extra supplement or anything. Things just need to be weighed out according to your lifestyle.

Guys it is great the way this thread is going:)
But I have a problem as I am reading the posts I am at a loss as the ingredients that you have suggested for juicing are made up of things I really don't like and the thought of carrots and celery juiced together makes me feel rather unwell.. also the fish... the smell is horrendous, so I cannot manage to eat or drnk them. The apple I like that one.
So external alternatives would be my only option anyone got any suggestions on that one?

The washing of the juicer is what stopped me using it in the end!

Did someone mention fish oil? I was told that I was low on Omega 3 and was prescribed capsules. They made me sick so stopped taking them. Very good for arthritis though.

celery and carrots didnt seem very appetising to me either but when you add in a red juicy apple it makes the taste of things a lot sweeter and its quite refreshing,

I think your taking Glucosamine marlene, I think its something good for arthritis sufferers as our joint cartilage is consistently being affected by inflammation, adding Condroitin with glucosamine helps to support cartilage.

GLUCOSAMINE PLUS CONDROITIN SHOULD BE AVAILALBE FROM YOUR GP ON PRESCRIBTION FOR FREE

No no freebie with Glucosamine and condroitin can't be prescribed by GP. The powers that be won't allow it.I find supermarket cheaper than health shops just a little tip for everyone.
