have you been told what type of arthritis it is in your spine? i only have knowledge of Ankyloising spondylitis.
With that it is best to keep as active as possible, swimming, walking or anything you can manage. You will find sitting in one position or even in the mornings you will stiffen up. There are simple stretches you can do to keep your spine flexable and help prevent it becomming too stiff which will also help the pain you may get.

If you havnt been refered to a physio therapist, ask because they will show you the stretches which will help.

my final bit of advice is read as much as you can about your diagnosis... knowledge is power! lol

Hope this helps a bit

Hi Tony, i had a slipped disc and OA in the spine which caused bone spurs. Have you had MRI scan yet??? I had back pain for years i also had pain in my hip groin and pain down to the knee.I would take care with exercise until you are diagnosed properly. Just gentle walking try not to sit in the same postion to long. Try heat pads. If you haven't got a Rhumy team ask your GP to refer you and ask for MRI scan, be pushy!!!Hope this helps good luck and take care.

Hi Tony, your arthritis back strangely enough can give you the sense that it is your hip and leg. This is just from my experience, my hips were the first things to be investigated but were found to be fine. The pain to hips and legs was referred pain caused by the slipped disc and OA. The nerves were trapped by bone spurs from the OA. Sorry if this sounds a little rough but it can all be put right!!! Hoping your MRI turns out well. Take care
