Subject: Therapies that r good for RA?

Hi I was just perusing the net for info re RA and I came across ur forum. I was wandering if anybody goes to any kind of therapies re their arthritis. I went on a course of hydro therapy myself earlier in the year but I felt I didn't get much benefit form this (the physios were more like trainers for the olympics rather than a therapy). So my question is, is there any other therapy that any one has found that they thought was beneficial to them?

ive heard massage can be quite good as it gets the circulation moving so helps a bit with swelling and also relaxes muscles which we tense up when in pain. x

Sorry for no replying to this sooner but I've been kind of busy lately as I've had to complete my application form for ESA which took an eternity to complete and which I've just received their decision after 4 months. OK so I decided to go for accupunture and to try something out called REEKI/REKI? suggested by my OT. However to get the accupuncture I have to travel miles so I don't attend it very often and because it is so infrequent it is hard to tell if you get any benefit from it.So at present am back to normal still searching for tht magic potion that can ease the pain as the painkillers from the consultant just don't do anything even if she increases it (which is nearly everytime)
So anybody got any oyher suggestions as to therapy or meds?

I belong to a meditation class, and sometimes that has helped with the pain, we do mindfulness meditation so breathing etc, it is lovely when you have relaxing music and candles. Hydro is good, but seeing as our local trust is planning on shuting the local hydro pool i do not know what i will do. An electric blanket on the bed is good helps ease the pain, keeps you warm and helps you relax, what works for one doesn't for another. it is trial and error unfortunately.

Hi. I have weekly physio sessions focussing on my hands. After having 8 weeks of hot wax treatment I definately felt some benefit, being able to move my fingers more, but it did not improve the strength in my hands. I have little strenght and sometimes find holding things painful. I have also bought a smal waxing treament from Argos, £29.99. I can use it on hands, elbows and feet and do get relief from it. I have also heard accupuncture is effective but have not tried it yet, working on building up the courage as I have a voucher for a free session. Another thing I sometimes finds helps it putting my hands in warm water, then cold and back to warm. This came from Occupational Therapy. Good luck with whatever you try and let us know if you find a miracle remedy.

Hi all, well I have had Reiki twice before - and before I was diagnosed, and loved it, if it hadn't been so expensive i'd have kept going. So at least give it a go I suggest. The hot/warm wax is meant to be good but it will depend on how mobile your feet and hands are I suppose really as to how much benefit. Massage - i've had two full body massages in the past 3 months and it did help. a colleagues daughter has Fibo.... sorry can't spell it - she is 23 and suffered this since 17 and is in agony most days and can't move - she had acupuncture and it is the only alternative that has helped her in any way at all so would suggest that too. and theres the old saying of - some will work for some and not for others. So best of luck with whatever you try and I hope you get some relief from it. I'm now off for as hot a bath as my body can stand to see if it helps ease this aches :) hope you all keeping as well as you can xxx
