Subject: embrel and sulphasalzine

hi there, i am a 44 year old male and have had ra since i was 11, i am on enbrel anti tnf and sulphasalizine, i have been on the sulphasalizine for 3 months and instead of feeling better i am getting worse, i was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem, i needed to have something added to the embrel as i was not doing too good, they tried me on methotrexate but that made me depressed so they put me on sulphasalizine, can the sulphasalizine prevent the embrel from working? any help would be appreciated, thanks pete

hi pete so sorry you have not had much luck with your meds, i am also on enbrel which is working ok but i am also on methotrexate and plaquenil.
it does sometimes take a while to get the meds right for you. i do hope you find the right mix soon.

normally enbrel sometimes doesn't work for you so you can ask for another anti-tnf if you feel you need it, otherwise wait and try another med before deciding but that could take a while
sorry!!
hope this helps take care

hi there davina, thanks for your reply,i have been on embrel for 2 years and i was doing ok on it but at xmas i started to go downhill so they put me on the methotrexate that was not good for me so then the sulphasalizine, it could be a coincidence but i have got worse since i started the sulpha,my consultant is quite concerned and has told me he is thinking of changing my embrel to tocilizumab but he has got to apply for the funding first, i am a bit worried as i have had a number of problems with my meds in the past, i have ra, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoporosis and reactive arthritis, sorry to waffle on, thanks pete
