Subject: refurral

hi and hope all are well

my gp has sent me to another rheumy cause he fells my normal rheumy is not doing all she can to help me. i feel up to know she as been doing her job seeing my 3 monthly and changing meds as needed,
i have been on methotrexate, plaquenil, sulfa and enbrel. the only thing i don't take now is sulfa.

my knee and elbow is still very bad, i have a suspicion that my elbow has another problem but my gp things its to do with the RA, also i know there is water on my knee, a tilt of my knee cap due to the inflammatory and baker cyst.

i do have more bad days that good days and my rheumy nurse said the enbral has brought my bloods down really well but i don't feel my better!!!

the gp also sent me to a new rheumy cause i see mine in april at which time i was put on enbrel and had no follow up appointment til october, is this a long time 6 months?

anyway sorry to rant but i just want to know if anyone else things my gp has done the right thing sending me to other doctor and has anyone else had these problems

thanks davina

Your GP certainly has your best interest at heart. A second opinion is only good two heads better than one!! When you see the next team if everything is as it should be, at least you will know all is well, this can only be a bonus. If something has been missed then it will be picked up. I was sent to a different team and within three months i knew exactly what i was dealing with and most of all why i was in so much pain. I dont have RA but OA two surgeries so far and looking at more possibly in the future. At least i now know the truth and don't feel ignored and like i was a total hypo LOL. Take care hope this helps.

I have six monthly appts with my rheumy but 3 monthly ones with the rheumy nurse, means I get six appts a year which is pretty good. Hope you get on better with your new one.

Ive swapped consultants at York and gone to Rotherham for 2nd opinion and lack of activity with my normal Rhumy who I lost all confidence in.

York kept saying they didnt have staff/hours available to see me and GP kept referring me back to them so a fobb off as no appointment for 18 weeks.

Hopefully you can get seen and dont worry about swapping Rhumy it can be the best thing

hi lee and bsk thanks for your comments and info

well i gave my history to the new rheumy and he understood that the pain is still there and the embrel is working a bit but not as well as hoped and that he may change me to another anti-tnf

he gave me a steroid injection in my knee that i can't straighten and is so painful all the time that i use crutches
also he took bloods and x-rays of my hands and feet how often do you get x-rays?

so hopefully he will be better, he seamed efficient but i'm just waiting for the loss weight speech

Perhaps he isn't going to give you the weight loss speech! Some doctors are intelligent enough to know that we know when we are overweight (I am beginning to sound like Donald Rumsfeld here!)My mum stopped going to the doctor in the end as she got tired of hearing it.

I don't get x-rays all that often but the occasional scan.

Davina so glad all went well for you. Dont worry about the weight loss speech i am lucky enough that my rhumy team have never mentioned it. I think they know for most of us it is a struggle. I am losing my weight lost 20lbs still got a way to go but im doing it slowly but surely and not denying my self anything (that sort of diet dosent work for me) Weight watchers is great i use them for a guide i dont go my daughter shares all her info with me. (she has lost more but she is active). When you feel ready you will do it. Take Care X

hi bsk and marlene

bsk do the scan's show more info or just activity?

marlene i am the same i thing i have lost 7 or 8lb's in about 4 months but i can't cut any food out cause it makes me want it more and i just keep thinking about it all the time.... lol
i also need something like wieght watchers but its so expensive, i can justify spending £6.00 a week to be weighted and have a meeting every week at the moment. well i'm sure something will help soon.

marlene you seam to always be there for everyone so i want to say thank you for your advice which i am sure others do/will do. xxxx

Hi Davina, the scan shows if you have fluid on your joints and also any damage but I have had my hands xrayed too, I just remembered.

I've been doing WW for about 2 months and have lost 12lbs. If you sign up online you get the first month for £12.95, I think, and then about £20 a month. It is expensive but worth it for me.
