Gill, big hug. Sorry you are having soooo much pain. I have also had three days of constant real bad pain. My hands are so swollen and painful my brain is like fog where i have been taking mega pain meds. I do understand where you are coming from.I also suffer with real back pain, i have had back surgery with not such a great outcome. I totally understand the issues with the constant back pain not knowing what to do laying down standing up laying down again. Rant away we all understand, and we have all been there. Take care hope you get a good nights sleep and feel a bit better tommorrow. X

Hi Gill,
Another big hug and all the empathy in the world, I have spent all night fighting the dreaded pain, never had it this bad, didn't manage to get to sleep till 3:00am, drifted in and out and still up at 6:00:( I also put a rant on the forums last night so don't worry about it, and Marlene is a great listener, she always has something nice and supportive to say.
Hope you have a better day today, take care xx

Hi this is my first time writing here. I have woken this morning with the worst pain ever today my flare up started last sunday but today god its bad i was diagnosed 3 years ago at the age on 27 with ra and 3 slipped disks at the bottom of my back i was soon back to normal and have had the odd flare up here and there but not like this i can bareley walk, cant hold a cup of tea to take my meds and when i breath my back and lungs hurt. I am not a complainer i usually get up and get on with it but this week god its sore i have not been of work in over a year and this is me of my first week with a 2 week sick note from doctor. I dont want to complain to my partner and kids so i thought i would come on here and do it. Is this the point were it is going to get worse and go down hill i am so scared of my future now my sisters keep telling me to take it easy and leave work but i think this would put me in to depression i am a chatty person and love my job as a dental nurse and i have bills to pay. Is this it have i come to the point of no return pls help i just dont really understand what is going to happen. sorry to go on but i am so scared i dont no what to do.xxx

Hiya Lisa and welcome to the best medicine you can get, these forums:) really sorry to read things are bad at the min and can fully empathise with you. I am lucky in the respect that RA didn't affect me till my late 40s and really admire all you young ones greatly.
Please ring your Rheummy nurse on Monday as it sounds that you are having a really bad flare up and tell them your concerns, they should be able to advise you on your best course of action, medication etc. It is not a definite sign that this is the point where life is going to get worse it may be that you need a change of medication or doseage, please do not rush back to work go back when you feel fit.
Please never apologise for ranting and complaining on here, we all do it and from experience it really helps:)
I am sending you a big virtual HUG hoping it hits where it isn't painful.
Don't hesitate to let us know how you are and take care xx

Hi Dilizjo, thank
you for understanding. well i have my rhum appt on monday to see the doctors i dont know what will happen whether they will change my meds im on narproxen and co dydramol at the moment but its not helping im hoping they give me some sort of miracle drug to get my life back on track but i know it wont happen. cryed twice today once in asda cause i could push the dam trolley and i really wanted to go shopping my self and i know this just cant be the case anymore and second when i came back home i got in the house burst out crying and my partners freind was in and i didnt know an he was toatlly shocked . usually im a very strong person always on the go and full of life. I dont want my daily life to stop now im happy with it. I tink my biggest problem is trying to learn to slow down with everything and its hard to do. im pushing my self into it and i cant do it so i get upset. What is the best medicine for this i dont know what to do or take. Someone else said speak to occ health about doing my daily house chores cause they have good ideas. i also feel as if my mussells are getting weaker to is this normal and the tiredness im not usually a tired person.xx

HI Lisa
just read your message there and i really do feel for you. You have your life in front of you and from what everyone else says there is life after getting diagnosed RA - they just have to get us the right medication. I am in the middle of a bout of pain, lethargy immobility, and pure anger at the minute - the strongest painkillers are not effective, the steroid didn't work and i am waiting to get on to my second dmard. I have also had occassions where i have wondered if i have to give up work - i now changed my working conditions so that i can work from home 2 days a week but unfortunately you wouldn't be able to do that as a dental nurse. But i do wonder if you could change your working conditions to make it easier for you just on a temporary basis - though your job is so physical, it may not help at all but shorter week or shorter days maybe. I really do hope you get some answers and relief from your consultant.
