Subject: changing meds advice

hi has anyone been on methotrexate and changed to something else and it be better?
been in meth since march and def helps but still very stiff in mornings and had 2 week long flare up. colleagues tell me although i may feel better some days that I still look in pain and washed out. suggesting getting doc to change meds and that meth is always first one they choose for us as it's cheapest also.
any advise or experiences greatly appreciated. thanks x

Hi :)
I have never taken MTX because I didnt want it. I have however taken Sulfasalazine and Hydroxychloroquine. The Sulfasalazine gave me an allergic reaction and the Hydroxy did nothing for me at all. So I was given the choice of MTX again or Leflunomide. I chose Leflunomide and I have to say although its still early days (8 weeks) I am beggining to see an improvement already. And I have the added bonus of absolutly no side effects from it :)My rheumy told me that there is not much between MTX and Leflunomide for being effective and side effect wise. But certain drugs work well for some and not for others. I think it would be a case of you asking your Rheumy and maybe trying other DMARDS and hoping they work for you.
Take care x

I have just stopped taking MTX after 9 months, having 3 onths with only pred to see what happens, I will then go on Anti-TNF.

However, my rheumy told me that if you stay on low dose of MTX it increases the chances of Anti-TNF working markedly

anyone else heard this?

Thanks

Hi Tom dont know if it does work better with it or not, but as you know i am on a trial drug and have been told it works better with mtx, so i am still on 15mg in injection form. I have felt a whole lot better, still have rough times but not half as bad and the big bonus I dont have one little patch of psoriasis left on my body....
