Subject: confused about seronegative
Hi all. When i was diagnosed four yrs ago, i remember my GP pointing out to me that my rheumatoid factor was one of the highest he`d ever seen, which is why it stuck in my head. Today I went for tests to get started on Cimzea because my RA hasn`t really been controlled. The Rheumy nurse told me that one of the tests is for seronegative arthritis, which has confused me as its already been confirmed that there was a Rheumatoid Factor. Has anybody else had a similar experience or can anybody shed some light on my confusion. Thanks, richard PS, really excited about starting Cimzea because i`m off work sick at the moment because of RA.

Richard do you think your gp may have meant inflamatory factor rather than rheumatoid factor? im sero negative but crp and esr have been raised recently started cimzia and getting some good results less tired less "clicky" and defo less achy hope it all goes well richard.

hi cookie. My gp definately said rheumatoid rather than inflammatory because i pointed it out to my rheumy nurse at the time and she agreed with me that it was high. I know that many factors are taken into consideration, mainly symptomatic factors like symmetrical joint pain, fatigue etc. I`ve dug my little book of blood results out, and going back a few years my ESR was 12 and CRP was 9 so not out of the norm when it comes to RA, in fact they`re probably quite low considering. I`m not worried about it, but when you`re sitting in the room with the Rheumy, it all makes sense but half an hour later when i`ve left I try to go over what they`ve said and i`m confused. probably just me lol. cheers cookie.x
