Sarah That can be the case, can't remember the exact name of it though - there is a rheumatoid Arthritis site where i got loads of information at the start of my diagnosis, the hospital give me all of their pamphlets and i have found them really helpful.

Yes it is possible and is called seronegative arthritis.

Hi Sarah It is possible to have a negative RF result, I kept getting them so my GP ignored everything I was saying to him about my condition, another Doctor at the surgery saw me during a really bad flare up and referred me to the Rheummy dept, they took bloods, xrays and a scan on my hands (at which the radiologists voiced his opinion that it looked like I had OA no signs of RA). A couple of weeks later I was called in to be told I had Seropositive RA, there is a blood test that the GPs do not have access to, according to my consultant, So keep asking the questions and relate any symptom how ever minor you may think they are to the relevant people. Also my ESR isn't too high and yet I have large visable swellings on both hands. Good luck and take care xx

Hi Sarah, yeah, loads of people have it. It is called sero-negative inflammatory arthritis. Sometimes you can go from being RF -ve to positive over time. I am now diagnosed as having RA even though I have never tested for rheumatoid factor.
