Subject: Being Tapered off Steroids/ prednisolone

I am coming off steroids.. whoop! I have been given the green light by my Rheumy Nurse. She said to just take my 2.5 mg every other day, rather than every day - and if I can manage that for a month I can come off them competely!

I am still on MTX 15 mg a week... but I will be glad to come of Pred as it has damaged my bones.
I had a dexa scan recently, and it indicated that I would suffer with Osteoporosis if I carried on with the steroids.

So... what should I expect coming off pred? Tell me the good news!

was on prednisolone for a couple of months when first diagnosed back in march - best i've felt in years to be honest but all stopped and the aches and pains all returned again :( had two flare ups since then (they were a new discovery for me) and back to taking painkillers. on 20mg a week of methotrexate and 400mg a day of plaquenil or whatever its called. this RA is a funny old thing as every morning you get up you know you've got it as takes ages to get body going but some days it's like nothing wrong with me and others i'd kill for steroids :) just don't try to be superwoman/man, still rest if you have to etc etc etc, keep well x

Thanks for you kind words. I have been alternating .. one day on Pred next day not... I have had the odd ache and tell tale signs.. but the nurse said that need to get off the steroids as I was showing early signs of osteoporosis.
I have been on steroids for 7 years now, so I will be glad to be off them.. but they are a bit of a security blanket too...
