Subject: Painkillers (having a rant!)

Does anyone else find it nigh on impossible to swallow the old fashioned round tablets?

Everytime I get a prescription for painkillers I go and forget to ask for the capsules or caplets. And everytime I end up with the round ones! Can't swallow them. When I try I'm nearly sick! Then some oh so helpful person says "why don't you cut them in half?" Erm...let me think! Because it makes them darn sharp! Am trying to reduce discomfort, not add to it. Secondly, how in goodness am I, an arthritic, supposed to cut them in half without jolting my painful joints!?? Think it through please 'helpful person'!

I do find it a bit off that we (the only country in the UK, by the way, that pays for prescriptions!)spend over 7 pounds on a few measly tablets and the doctors have the cheek to prescribe the cheepest possible kind - the round ones! AAAHHH!

...ok...calm down Poppy! In with the good...2..3..out with the bad...2..3...

Right. That's better. I will leave you all in peace now! :)

Poppy tell your GP you have difficulty with swallowing the round pills and he will write a prescription for caplets. Sometimes this is down to your Pharmacy as well. Tell your pharmacist your problem and try to get them to put it on the computer system they have(or at least mine does). There is nothing worse than getting the things stuck then they start to dissolve in your throat gross!!! i'm with you on this one.

Glad I'm not the only one! I do usually ask my GP for the other sort but every now and then I forget and they revert back to their old ways. I will ask them to put a note on the system though, that's a good idea ta. Problem this time was I changed the type of painkiller due to the rather annoying side effect of codine!

I so know how you feel, I have such a sensitive gag reflex that I have to have a really sweetened drink as I can not take them with water, squash or tea, has to be nesquick banana milkshake and then I have to think about something else!! I would always ask for the caplets, hopefully your Gp will understand and try to make that possible for you. So glad I am not alone with this, and as far as when they start to dissolve in your throat or tongue..YUCK!!!! lol...Take care xx

They also feel like they're stuck in your throat for ages afterwards too! However, yesterday I did find that eating an entire Terry's Chocolate Orange made me feel much better! - if a little sick!
