Subject: back at work ggrrre

having been off for 6 months am well and truly back , my job entails driving around to variuos places as wel as having some office time ( quite a bit of that). I did a phased return to work and wasnt allowed to do any visits until i was settled back in etc wich was fine by me. I am now finding i am being allocated more and more work to do in the office and less visits , this is driving me mad! it takes me 50 mins to drive to work and previously as i could do visits on the way in and on the way back from work it broke my journey up a fair bit, now most days its a full journey in and a full journey back. I realise my colleauges are ( in the main) trying to help me but its driving me mad 1 colleauge in particular is doing this to benifit herself as she can get home early ggrr, one of my friends/ colleauges at work has brought this up with the others in my team but they just seem to carry on excluding my from planning these visits, ggggrrrr sorry folks just wanted to have a moan , feel a bit better now lol

HI Cookie
people can be such a pain can't they. i can totally understand where you are coming from. You are back to do the job you know you can do and whether it is well meaning or not, other people make decisions that impact on your working day which can drive you mad. I have been allowed to work two days from home, (and i work my butt off at home accomplishing far more than in the office) my immediate boss give the goahead for this but she is really annoyed as she feels she was pushed into a corner and i am getting something that she is not. (also she has no control of me when i am at home) As a result she isolates me, undermines me and drip feeds me information. Its exhausting putting up with this, she is also deputy director so has a lot of power. However, i do let other people know the situation including the director and she is known for behaving this way anyway so there is support there. I am off on two weeks holidays so putting work to the back of my mind and enjoying my family, mind you with two young girls looking to go different places at different times and my husband is at work i have to be sure not to run myself ragged.

I think work is a fine example of how society doesnt understand Arthritis and is afraid of it.

The try to do things which they think are best for you but actually with all their amendments and faffing they actually make the situation worse.

If you feel ok and you are fine to do visits close to your home or on the way to work then the logical solution would be for you to cover them.

At the end of the day, you know your body better than anyone and you know what you can handle and if you tell them you're upto it then they should take your word for it.

My work know If and When I return it will need to be reduced hours and they cant throw me back on the phone and give me loads of insurance files to deal with even though they prob will

I think companies try and over comphensate in case you have another flare up and say work contributed to it. Most companies are just covering their arses to make sure they cant be blamed or sued for anything.

Sadly thats the culture we live in now. People are always looking to blame and sue someone.

Keep chin up

Hi Cookie,
I work in a completely different environment from yourself but would it be possible to ask for one day a week, the same day each week, when you`re travelling all day instead of being in the office, and if you`re ok, then move onto two days. Companies seem to like a plan and it shows willing...it might stop that colleague getting home early once a week too lol. Hope things get better for you soon. Richard
