Subject: Immune system question

I kind of understand how auto-immune conditions work but theres a couple of things i`m not sure about.
When the immune system attacks joints causing them to become damaged, does the body then send more anti-bodies to rectify the situation but these anti-bodies become bad and inflict more damage, therefore the body sends more anti-bodies and they become bad...or are there any good anti-bodies that actually stay good and help the joint.
A strange question I know but i`m trying to get my head around how Rheumatoid Arthritis works.

richard, my understanding is that your joints are attacked as they are seen as foreign objects and your body doesnt recognise them as yours, this is a constant process ( unless you go into remission) i dont think there is a counter attack as such, the anti tnfs etc are designed to dampen down the immunie response generally. I guess as the body doesnt see the joints etc as yours they wouldnt counter attack with antibodies, clear as mud lol
