Subject: Just being let down is a great way to start the day

I've been injecting Cimzia since April, a few before I was due to run out I phoned the Rummy team. Was told my nurse was on leave ( be nice to have RA leave ), they reassured me they would sort it. Just got off the phone from health care at home, they have sent four emails since May informing my team they need a prescription. All have been ignored!!

My doctor is refusing to prescribe me any meds apart from co-codamol as the hospital hasn't instructed him to? Even though they have a letter on the system stating what my consultant had previously prescribed me. Can't get to see my consultant until August !!!

Luckily I'm going in to see my nurse today ( probably be sat 3 hours in the waiting room like last time) to hopefully get a steroid injection as my current flare up is the worst I've ever had! Oh rant over ... just wished I could get some decent support , is that too much to ask?

I can relate to your situation. I keep getting appointments cancelled because the rheumatologists are unavailable.
A situation that seems to keep happening is that I go and see the specialist, he/she then arranges a new medication with a follow up appointment 3 months later, then the appointment gets cancelled and I end up taking a new medication(which might not even do anything for me or makes me feel bad) for what could be up to a year before I can get another appoinment.
I understand how frustrating it is when just before an eagerly awaited appointment comes round it gets cancelled.

absolutely discraceful! surely your GP could have phoned your rhumatologists secretary and checked what was given to you and as for the nurses ignoring emails.... i just hope you are good at keeping your temper because i would be going mad with them, specially as you cannot access your medication any other way. Not like you can pop into a chemist and replace it.
Idiots. I would be telling them exactly what has been going on and how let down you feel.
good luck with the appointment x

Get another GP Sian! That is no way to treat someone in pain. A GP doesn't need a consultant's instructions to prescribe painkillers, what a load of rot. My gp gives me what I need; find one for yourself who does the same. xx

Oh for goodness sake. A GP cant prescribe your meds why not. My GP changes my pain meds to suit my needs he doesnt ask my consultant. They look after me between them. My best wishes are winging there way to you. Take Care hope you feel better soon. X

Thank you all, it's been a tough few weeks and you guys have been the lift I needed.

I was told I haven't got a GP of my own at my surgery, I just have to see who is available. I had an infection, which triggered my flare up so this is the first time I've ever had to take time off work. It's just been one thing after another, I've changed my hospitals three times due to the lack of support, really think this is as good as it gets unless I travel miles and miles out my area ( anyone else have this problem in the west midlands? ).

The infection is still in my system so couldn't get the steroid jab, a waste of an afternoon and it cost me £5 parking for pleasure ha ha. I hate being off work, I can see my case loads just getting bigger waiting for my return. My job is very stressful ( but I love it ) I work with prolific offenders ( try to stop them repeat offending) my boss is the evil witch of the west!! When I disclosed my condition she just said ' fine, I'll do a risk assessment on you'. I was off for two weeks in January as my nan passed away and this is only my second sickness leave in TWO years and she said when I phoned in sick ' well how long you planning on being off as I'm going to have to check the policy!!' I'd already said I'd got a two week
sick note, I'm sure she wanted to force me to come in .. maybe use her witchcraft!

I am going to do something positive today, any suggestions ...

It is ok as long as you agree. She should only do a home visit to give you support nothing more. She should be asking if the company can help you, not pushing for a date for return to work.If you are not ready for the visit pospone until you are. On your return to work you should also be given a back to work chat. Just tomake sure all is well with you. Take Care, remember you are unwell and are at home on your Drs say so. Take Care. X

sian 2 weeks doesnt sound right to me, in reality this is just starting o be classed as long term sick, i could understand after a month or so but again i guess it depends on policy
dont let them make you feel intimidated or bullied into going back in any way, they may just want to let you know they care x

Cheers for your responses ... my manager has major personal issues with me so I am very aware it's not because ' she cares'. I have contacted a legal helpline and been told I can refuse the visit in my home.

I have rang her back stating that if my infection is clear by Friday and I get my steroid jab I should be back Monday so I don't see the point in her coming mine, I suggested meeting at head office with a third party if she insists.

This woman is extremely unprofessional and underhanded, I informed her when I disclosed my RA I did not want my work colleagues being made aware yet she has asked me questions regarding my illness in front of them. I am treated totally different from other employees and this all boils down to that her ex-partner ( who works with us ) constantly try's to flirt with me. I've only ever wore a skirt twice for work both just above my knee and both times she's given me warnings for inappropriate dress code!! I wouldn't mind but this is a woman who dresses so inappropriately all the staff make fun of her ' working girl ' wardrobe!

Thanks for your feedback, I'm not going to feel guilty for genuinely being too unwell to work. If I do feel harassed I'm going to make a formal complaint. Victor Meldrew has nothing on me today! Ha ha

Oh Dear what a horrible woman guess her ex found this out. Wouldnt want her in my home either. She is a very sad lady judging by what you are saying. If she is threatened by a pair of legs god help us all LOL. You take care you are worth far more than the likes of this woman. X

two weeks does seem ver quick. Ive been of nearly three months and im sure tgey wanted a home visit after 5-6 weeks but after i spoke to them on the phone we agreed not necessary.

My work was contacting me by phone, letter and email 5 times a week asking for updates untill i sent a quite snotty email back which went to my managers manager and said this is harrassment and making my illness and depression worse. I said I will contact them when i know more as nothings changed

lucikly they backed off and now when ive gone to hospital or drs i drop them a quick update emails as its on my terms and not theres.

They have full access to my records if they want to check

it does seem you are being harrassed for no reason

Marlene, you just put the biggest smile on my face. The only threat my legs pose are in the event I have to kick someone ... this is likely to be her if this continues. ( so lady like of me)

Lee, I contacted OD today and they confirmed that it is normal procedure to arrange a home visit on week 4 for week 5!! I have also given constant updates. I think five calls in two weeks is more than enough!

I am feeling much better today ( all be it in a painkiller haze) hopefully my infection is cleared and I will get my steriod jab Friday ...will be a very happy lady! They work very well for me normally. I plan to return Monday, then I am off next weekend for a week in North Wales ! I cant wait, I have been told hot tubs are great for RA!!

Hope you are all well ... thanks again for the constant uplifts .
