Subject: Lifting heavy (ish) stuff
Hi not sure of lifting things, they are heavy-ish but until a few months ago would have been easy, now, i can still lift them but should I? do i carry on as normal (lifting things) or should i ease off now and let someone else do it. i don't know the 'rules' if i lift is it worse long term or make no difference?

i try and carry on as close to normal as possible. I never continue with something if it causes me pain whilst im doing it. I ask my husband for help or stop then go back to whatever i was finding difficult. I dont know if thats right or wrong but to me its important to keep doing things ive always done as much as possible. Its a very individual thing but im sure you will know your limits :) hope this helps a bit x

I agree with kirst try and carry on as near normal as you can,Its important for your own mind. Your body will tell you if you are overdoing it or not, so its important to listen to your body. There are no rules everyone is different, and have there own capabilitys. take care x

Hi Wills, I don't know what sort of arthritis you have got. I have RA and was told to take care; to carry things differently so that you don't put strain on your joints. I rarely lift heavy things any more, only on rare occasions. I was also told by my consultant that if I continued to garden, for example, to give yourself a 'day off' the following day. I don't always follow this but am a lot more cautious. If you go to Arthritis Research UK there is information about looking after your joints under the section 'arthritis and daily life' might help you decide what to do.

Hi Kirst, Lynn and bsk thank you tons for commenting it does help to hear others opinions. It's so daft this RA as i'v obviously had it for donkeys years and never realised until my body last sept decided that was enough and bang - shit did it hit and god has it changed my life and my husbands, poor thing doesn't know what to do with himself with me. so independent then next thing sorry can't lift that paper lol just thank you, makes a difference in life to have everyone supporting - 45 today and still fighting :)like they say about alcohol (although that's a thing of the past) everything in moderation x
