Subject: feeling down been in constant pain for days now more than usual:(

Will apologise now guys but really feel the need for a moan and groan:(
I was put on Methx 10mg 6 weeks ago and am sorry to say that if anything the pain has got increasingly worse, the Rheummy nurse upped my dose last Monday to 15mg and folic acid every day except the day I take my methx and has suggested that I take it ib injection form...(which I don't want to do if I can help it) amd sick of being used as my mother's pin cushion:( I am also on the highest dose Co-Codamol and naproxen which again don't really have much effect at all.
For the last 4 days my right shoulder has been excruciatingly painfull all the time alongside with pain down the arm if I inadvertantly try to move it to quick, godd job I don't have a partner cos I'm going to bed with loads of cushions down my side to support my arm and hands, the other shoulder and arm are painfull as well but not as severe. Today if I try and walk any distance or climb the stairs I feel like I have a heavy weight all the way round my shoulders and collar bone to the point it starts tightening, anyone else experienced this?
Also have little white filled blisters appearing on my hands that eventually go flat and red before fading... the rheummy said this could the RA attacking my skin:(
So with aches, pains and spotty hands I am now feeling grotty:(
ok there it is my moan sorry to do but you guys understand our situation fully:)

Hi there, been looking at the posts it seems a few of us are suffering at the moment, ive just had all my pain meds upped. Maybe it might be this weather, the changes in air pressure affect us apparently. I hope you get some rest to-night its 11-30 and i still cant sleep. Dont worry about moaning i did that a couple of days ago. You take care.

Definetly think weather has a lot to do with it... seems we cant win lol.

I get the weight and tight feeling around my shoulders and collar bone but the only diffferance for me is that i get neck pain with it so always put it down to that. Maby a trapped nerve but if i were you id mention it to someone.

Go to the GP monday and tell them you are getting no relife from your pain medication. If they give you a load of twittle about morphine based drugs (ie not wanting to give you them) ask them for nefopam as i was given them when nothing else was working and they work wonders. you can have up to 3 every 4-6 hours on top of everything else but they work so might be worth a try.

We all need a darn good moan every now and then!

I get the neck pain too. Used to find it the most annoying place for it to flare up because you can't get comfortable at all, no matter what your doing.

Although in the last three months my elbows have been the issue and are now "semi-disabled." Have lost all but a little movement. (Luckily they're stuck in the right position for typing!)

im sorry to hear your suffering so much i went to my rheumy on frid and like you i could not move my right arm i had an injection into the joint(pain) she said it will get sorer but should help over the course of a few days its still sore but def not as sore as it was last week so you should ask your rheumy nurse about it, im just about to start mxt and im not keen but needs must and at this point im willing to take anything if its going to help!!! good luck hope you get something to ease the pain

ps i asked my rheumy to up my pain meds i take tramadol and parecetomol she said that the pain would not go away until the arthritis was under control and until the immflamation is reduced i was quite gutted :(

take care

i hope you are feeling somewhat better by this stage. And gosh don't apologise for sharing your pain - i have done probably more than my share of moaning on this site. Its a great and very receptive site to do so. The only thing that lessened that sickening overwhelming pain for me was a large general steroid injection. i have still pain, stiffness and limited mobility but it got rid of that excrutiating pain that you describe. I am on 15mg of metx (10th week), rheumy wants me to also go on planequil as well as she thinks the metx isn't effective enough. The pain meds do not make any difference to me either. I sincerely hope you feel a bit better but if not come back on and have a rant, I'll be more than happy to listen.

I am sorry to hear your not feeling too good. I sympathise fully as I have been on methotrexate injections 10mg. I am on my sixth week and the pain has increased especially in my hip. I saw the consultant on monday and he is going to increase the dosage to 15 mg but only after I asked for it. He doesn't seem to understand that I am on the sick at the minute as I don't feel able to walk upto 9 hours a day like my job needs. Mst of his patients are elderley and don't work but I am 44 yrs old and I've got a long way to retirement. I take tramadol as pain relief along with lodine and lansaprazole plus folic once a week. I am going to buy a tens machine and try to go swimming three times a week when I can in the hope it will help me cope until the methotrexate begins to help. I live in hope. Maybee you could try a tens machine? Sharon
